New member from KS. Just recently purchased an SR-556c It is my first AR. When sighting in I was shooting paper at 50 yards and it was hitting way left about 4 inches left. I had someone verify just to make sure it wasn't me, same thing with him. So i adjusted the rear sight quite a bit, the line on the rear sight is now 2 over from the middle. Is this normal for them to be that far off. If i remember it was around 20 clicks. Now it is dead on and hitting out to 300 yards.
Where is your front sight mounted? I've noticed on the SR556s that last section of rail where the piston is located is not always aligned with the main rail system. If your front sight is mounted on the forward section it maybe be off alignment. If your dead on now after an adjustment I wouldn't worry about it.....just my 2cents anyway.
Yea I also heard that about the rail being mis-aligned. The sight is mounted on the gas block and it seems to be aligned pretty good with the rail. I'll probably just leave it alone. it just bugs me that I had to move it so much and was wondering if this was common.
My SR-556 is the same way. The Troy sight has very fine adjustments, so you should have plenty. Mine had to go 25 clicks from center before it was dead on. I also have a Colt that had to go even further. I guess that's why they are adjustable. Zero the irons and get an optic, then they are just for back-up.
I have an Aimpoint CompC3 on mine. A little less expensive than Trijicon, EOTechs, etc. but works fine for my purposes. I might buy a nice magnified longer range scope to put on...
I purchased the Vortex Strike Fire Red Dot a few weeks ago. Got it mounted on my SR 556 and went to the range to site it in. Sighted it in at 30 yards with a few clicks on the adjustments. Move back to 50 yards and checked it again. For a red dot with a 3MOA dot and these old eyes, I was impressed. As far as being accurate, lets just say that the bad guy would be dead, even if he was a Zombie!
never been told that. always use small aperture unless its night or nbc environment shooting with pro mask. quick shots, for instance in the confines of a room are made by aiming over the sights down the barrel. who told you they are called battle sights? just wondering about different thoughts on it.
So I have an SR556 that I put a carry handle style rear and fixed front A2 sight and have been having an issue getting it zero'd the 25 Meter method. With the rear all the way 6/3 then back to Z, and the front level with the mount (mechanical zero) I had to crank the front sight post all the way down and it was still an entire target low. Dead center, but a foot low. When I bring the back all the way as high as it will go it comes up about 6 inches. I took an older sight post and had to grind half of it away to get it zero'd. I do not think that is normal. Is it possible I have the wrong height carry handle sight in the rear or the front is higher then it should be? I am very new and green about this so any information would be most helpful. Is it better to purchase them in a matched set opposed to purchased from Amazon in pieces?
