Mini 14 Stainless/Grey Finish

So I picked up a stainless mini today and its a 151 prefix with the old battleship grey finish. Has anyone tried to polish it to the old shiny stainless
finish? Thinking about using some flitz or is failure futile
That grey finish just really bothers me. Let me know if anyone has tried it.

If you do putting on the buffing wheel, you would want to have it passivated afterward. Even stainless will corrode under the right conditions. Passivation forms a stable oxide on the stainless surface. Polishing the stainless will remove the passivation.

I myself would much prefer battleship grey stainless over a shiny polished stainless.
After all the Mini is a hunting/fighting/defensive carbine, not a blinged out showpiece.
You don't want that whitetail spooking or that home intruder getting a shot off at you first because he saw the Texas sun flashing off your polished stainless Mini.
I try to make my stainless guns even more unobtrusive by Cerakoting them in matte colors like FDE or Coyote Brown.
The middle one is a stainless Mini-30 I did in Sniper Grey and Tungsten Cerakote:

Ruger used to have a grey stainless finish on some rifles, I had a M77 .22 Mag. in that grey stainless. And I've seen the Redhawk in that grey as well.
I'm thinking Ruger called it "Target Grey", but my memory has been wrong before.
I don't know of any Mini's done like that, but Ruger would certainly have the ability to have done some up that way.
All of the stainless Mini's I've seen are more silver to me, not shiny but not exactly dull either. To me, the factory stainless guns are almost too shiny. Even if you don't want to Cerakote a stainless Mini, just doing the preparatory alum. oxide blast gives the metal a nice, overall matte, then the stainless steel is not shiny at all.

I just bought a new 5819 Tactical. They call the finish "Matte Stainless." It's really gray, not silver, and kind of dull.
