Does your Mini-14 change zero after disassembling?

It is nicely zeroed @ 1.5" high @100yds shooting 1.5MOA with a 2X7 scope. I am not putting many rounds through it since it is a hunting rig. Am I being a fuddy dud about this? Has anyone else noted a change in POI after breaking down and cleaning?

Well, I can tell you as a fellow fud, I have not experienced a problem with keeping zero after disassembly. My tactical is set up with a scope that I swap out so I can use my irons. I can transition from irons to scope without a problem keeping it zeroed. It shoots 2MOA, and will group a pattern close to center no matter how many times I take it off. But I am using Ruger scope rings, I find them to be the most secure way to mount a scope on a Mini.

I haven't experienced any change in POI after breaking it down for cleaning. I field strip it after every range session. No reason it should change, really, unless the scope gets bumped out of zero.

I notice a change in POI if I open up the gas block, for a bushing change or a thorough cleaning.

I have had mini 14s for years and no noticeable change but I shoot most mini sessions at 50 to 100 yards so not a big deal

I just want to be able to hit the coyote @ 200yds with the first shot without having to go sight it every time I strip & clean it therefore I rarely strip & clean it.

If you aren't removing the gas block or scope there's no reason anything will change.

I have to remove the scope to get the handguard off. See pic.

If you have to remove the scope to get the handguard off, you will get a change in POI everytime. Might be as small as 1/2 inch or as much as 5-8 inches depending how you remove and re-install the scope.

My scope mount is basically the same as the OP so I generally just use a snake to clean the barrel and action out, when I do take the arm completely apart, I will go down to my range (which is less than 10 minutes from my home) and re-zero it. Usually doesn't take about 6 rounds or so.

I think I'll keep doing what Loose Noose does.

I don't know how many rounds you fire on each hunt, but I might be tempted to wait until I fired about 50 rounds or so before I break down the rifle for cleaning, just to avoid having to re-zero it each time.

On the other hand, if you enjoy shooting, going to the range to zero is good way to get more practice. I understand that feeling of having a dirty firearm in the house too.
