Question SR556 Takedown iron sights

I took my factory SR556 Takedown out to shoot and it shot incredibly low. At 25-50 yards and aiming center, it would miss a 12x12 target completely. After adjusting the front sight as far as it would go, it is still shooting 5-6 inches low. Another individual was with me and also fired way low.

Does anyone else have this issue?

I took it to Greentop and they basically said the sights were crap and the only thing I could do was replace them. I (possibly foolishly) had them do that just that and add a red dot at the same time. I emailed Ruger when I got home and let them know about the issue. I wish I had done that before replacing the irons but anyways.

Has anyone had or seen this issue with the factory irons on the takedown? Was the Greentop employee in any way correct in calling the sights crap and not "military grade" or is he a Ruger hater?

My SR556cla (not a takedown model) has the Troy battle sights on it from the factory. I've never used them as I've always had either an EOTech, or a Nikon scope on it.

If yours has the Troy sights on it they're not cheap sights. If they are the Troy's I'd contact them and see if you could send them in to be checked, or replaced.

The sights have the Ruger logo on them and one of them has "sampson" on the bottom. I will post a picture tomorrow after work.

Not cheap!

The stock Ruger sights are Samsons and they are a customversion with windage and elevation available on the front sight to maintain zero when swapping barrels.

They are far from cheap and if you are low with the post all the way up on the front sight you should call Ruger as the rifle (sights included) is lifetime warrantee. Mine are fine and can adjust perfectly. Standard Samson front sight is about $100 at a discount (not the custom job on your Ruger which you can only get from Ruger and aint cheap).

Your LGS did you wrong there!

Thank you all for the replies. I did indeed contact Ruger and they offered to ship me a replacement pair of sights. They also said if I still had issues they would like to look at the gun. Excellent customer service for sure.

I have not done so yet, but Greentop also said that they would give a full return for the sights they installed. Assuming I do actually get the problem fixed, I will be happy all around.
