I picked up my "New" (to me) Ruger 44 Magnum Carbine today. It is a dandy. I am very impressed by the care the former owner gave this rifle during the 38 years he had it.

This gun is so light, even with a full magazine that my wife has already laid claim to it for the coming deer season. The feel and handling is very close to what I knew with my M1 (and M2) carbine. It makes my 10-22 seem heavy when compared side by side.

I have scope mounts on the way, and will be looking for a compact scope to help Mrs Mayor get her Does this fall. We are in a multiple anterless deer area which will allow her to take one Buck and up to EIGHT Does. If I go out too, we can double that number...Yeah there are a LOT of Whitetails in this area of Indiana.

I also have one of these nice little rifles, I have see thru scope mounts and a bushnell sportview scope mounted to it, works out really nice.

I guess it's an older model has the tube feed mag, serial # is 102-53XXX don't know what year it was made.

I also have a couple of these rifles, the older tube feed model and the Deerfield which is magazine fed. If you go to Rugers website I think you will be able to find out when she was born.

Pretty common up this way as it makes for a great brush gun. My grandfather had one he used with success. If I remember correctly it didn't like any cartridges too close or over SAAMI spec lengths.

I inheritted one from my grandpaw. 1970 model. Tube fed magazine.

Took it twice this past year, killed a doe with it the first day out, and missed a coyote at about 15ft (forgot to turn my scope down lol). It's became my new favorite deer gun, out of Rem 700s, M77, Win 94, and various muzzleloaders (T/C Encore included).

Wish I had the money to buy a beater, but I haven't found them below $600.

The .44 carbine is a great little rifle! Go buy it now! You won't see that price very often, or ever. What a deal that is.
