AR 556 - Davidson Exclusive or Standard?

Can't decide on a black AR556 or the dark earth Davidson exclusive. The dark earth cost $30 more. I like the looks of the dark earth but my concern is that it just attracts more attention. If you ever really needed it for defensive purposes, or if the SHTF, I can't see how having a rifle that stands out would be good?

What do you think?

Pick a color and shoot. Forget attention. FDE sounds good to me.

the attention factor is why my home defense rifle is a wood stocked blued steel mini 14.

Get the one you want. You can always change it later. This one started out as a black rifle.

Then I put some MOE furniture on it.

If you start with black you can accessorize around it with different colors like what Bozz48 did. I have FDE Magpul furniture like he has for my AR556 but I also have a set in gray that looks nice too, and I can always go back to the stock black. If you are stuck with the Davidson's FDE receiver then you are limited as it will always be FDE. A black receiver works with a lot of color combinations.

Just my opinion.

If you used it for defensive purposes and it was a good shoot, color of the rifle doesn't matter. For SHTF, depends on your idea of SHTF, but a black rifle stands out in nature.

Honestly can't believe this is even a thought though on which rifle to buy...

The AR is so modular and easily changed with hundreds of aftermarket parts and accessories available. For me, I'd rather spend the extra $30 on a couple additional magazines.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the comments. Sarkus' comment about adding furniture of different colors and not being tied to the dark earth receiver makes a lot of sense to me. Since I'm not planning on acquiring a collection of ARs, I guess I'll go with the black and have some fun playing with furniture. Thanks again for the the great input.

I bought the FDE Davidson version cheaper than the standard black one.
