Anyone find a suitable extended quad rail AR-556

Hi all, I am totally new here and to the AR platform. After searching for a solution to the AR-556 extended quad rail, I haven't found anything new or recent. I am looking for a decent extended quad rail around 15" or a little less. Has anyone found one that is suitable without much modification? I even searched the Ruger store and no luck. Why doesn't someone make one specific for this gun? It is a popular AR.

What do you mean by little modification?

Generally, a rail of that length means you will have to take off, replace, or modify the gas block and barrel nut. For me, that's an easy modification. To others, this is more than they want to do.

I don't believe there is much out there that let's you accomplish a long rail without much modification.

DD makes the RIS, but it is expensive and not the length you want.

One feature of the rifle that limits the length of the rail is the front sight gas block (fsb). There are a handful of rails that accommodate it and use the stock barrel nut and delta ring. I only have experience with the Troy Industries delta rail but I would recommend it. Other makers such as Daniel Defense noted above, Midwest industries and centurion all make versions. You'll want the carbine length rail. Your other option is to change out the fsb for a low profile gas block and get a free float handguard in whatever size your heart desires. You'll have to change out the barrel nut as most makers have their own proprietary system. The second option is the most expensive by far.

I am afraid to make modifications that may void my warranty. The DD is quite expensive and I don't need to mount a grenade launcher on it. Sweet quad though.

I probably wasn't clear about the DD rail: It would at least keep your front sight. I agree it's pricey.

I'm not sure you're going to be able get a rail that length and keep everything intact.

The AR rifle is modular by design, and as long as the manufacturer sticks to the standard design and specs, parts that are specific to only a certain model gun are unnecessary.

If you do not want to change out the front sight base, then you will need to search for a rail with an A2 front sight base cut out. Something like this...

https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/prod...fType=&from=fn

Now here is the catch... Even with this rail, you will have to do a little filing on either the rail or the front sight base to get it to fit the AR-556... Why? Because Ruger did not follow those standard specs to make the front sight base.

The AR-556 is a conventional, direct impingement AR-15- the A4 front sight also acts as the gas block. Replacing the front hand guard to add a rifle-length quad rail requires removal of the A4 front sight, addition of a low-profile gas block, and a new barrel nut to mount the new quad rail. Great buy in price at around $600, but to get that "long rail" look you're gonna spend at least $250-300 in parts, plus have to pay a gunsmith or invest in all the required tools to do the work yourself. The gas system on the AR-556 is also carbine length, putting it halfway under a free-floating quad rail.

All of that said, I chose the SR-556 because of the gas piston system (cleaner operation), nice long Troy quad rail already installed, Troy flip-up iron sights. No gunsmithing need- take it out of the box, field strip it to clean and oil it, reassemble and go shoot. Maybe not as light as the newer keymod version, but the heavy quad rail makes it a smooth shooter. I paid $1100 for mine new.
