JAFNG with SR-556 questions

Hi,
My name is Geno, and I'm planning to buy a Ruger SR-556 FB 5902. I noticed there are more than a few variants of this rifle- the no. 5904 has no flash fider, the SR-556 E 5912 has a round hand grip and no sights, and the SR-556C 5905 seems similar to the 5902. Can someone explain the differences to me before I buy the rifle? I own other AR's, but this is my first Ruger rifle and I'd like to be more informed before I put my money down.

Thanks,
Geno

Here's a comparison chart. I have a SR556-CLA, man I love that gun, super accurate.

What other ARs do you own? Why the interest in the SR556?

Welcome from new jersey. Learn and enjoy. I would get one with a flash hider if legal where you are as a 16 inch barrel without a flashhider will give a lot of flash with cheap plinking ammo.

All SR556 are discontinued except take down. I have the standard FB I like it a lot but wish I would have got the carbine. Shorter & fluted barrel and less weight. My SR is heavy but I got a GOOD deal.

I own an all Spikes AR build, another AR build with a Spikes lower/buffer/LPK and a PSA assembled upper with a 16" chrome-lined barrel and mid length gas system. I just bought a S&W M&P-15T. I also have an FDE Sig Sauer 716.

My interest in the Ruger SR-556 is obvious- it's a great rifle, and with the gas piston the chamber and BCG stay much cleaner. I was kind of disappointed Ruger went with with a 1:9 twist, but after doing some research I decided I can live with it- I rare shoot with anything over 62 gr. 5.56 ammo anyways, so my current ammo stock should feed an SR-556 just fine.

Beachcityboy,
Thank you for posting that chart- that will help alot.

I looked at the SR-556 take down also- nice feature and it's nice Ruger offers a 300 AAC barrel too, but I'm happy with the SR-556 FB model and the price I'm buying it for. The seller is fitting a CA bullet button for me, and I get to swap 3 Pmags for a single 10-round Pmag- thanks Sacramento (rot in Hell).

Geno,

I've found my SR556 loves the Black Hills 60 gr. V-Max round. It will drill some very tight groups with that ammo.

You're gonna love your SR556.

I have the CLA also, it's a great gun and shoots fine. Only thing I will say is plan on putting a new trigger in whatever SR you get, the factory trigger will probably be terrible.

We Kommiefornia gun owners get screwed at every turn- the Ruger SR-556 comes with 3 30 round Pmags and Troy rail covers, but we have to pay more for the stupid CA bullet button and a 10 round Pmag that sucks. The dealer gets to keep those 3 Pmags too. But none of these things is gonna keep me from buying this rifle- I've been looking for one for awhile and I've got until 12/21/16 to buy it. After that date, I won't be able to receive the rifle by 12/31/16 and then the CA bullet button is illegal in CA in 2017.

I'm stoked I can buy the whole rifle instead of just the upper alone- those sell for at least $1000, so being able to buy the whole deal for $1100 is a bargain to me.
