Thank you, sir- I have been looking for an SR-556 for awhile and found this one. The seller was also very helpful in making it CA compliant for me- otherwise I wouldn't even be able to buy it.

Of course I won't get the 30 rd. Pmag (Ruger gives you three with this rifle), but no worries- I'm covered in that area-lol.

Welcome from Massachusetts. I got an SR556SC when they first came out for $900. Love that rifle!

About a year later the LGS had one of the variant SR556 VT on the wall that hadn't moved in a while made an offer that was accepted. The VT has a 20" barrel came without iron sights.

In fact, today I'm going to the range with a friend to do some fine tuning on the 100 yard range.

PS my love affair went nutty when I saw the SR762. Bought it in another state and had my gunsmith make it state compliant. Makes a bigger bang than the 556 and is a ton of fun at the 100 yard range!

I noticed there are more than a few variants of this rifle- the no. 5904 has no flash fider, the SR-556 E 5912 has a round hand grip and no sights, and the SR-556C 5905 seems similar to the 5902. Can someone explain the differences to me before I buy the rifle? I own other AR's, but this is my first Ruger rifle and I'd like to be more informed before I put my money down.

Thanks,
Geno
The 556E came with Ruger Rapid deploy sights which are similar to Mag Pul after Jan 2013 i think.

Geno,

you will like your SR-556. I have had mine for years and still like it as much as I did when I originally bought it.

You should love the new addition to the family.

Congrats on the new addiiton

Thank you, sir- I've wanted one for years, and when I found this deal it was too good to pass up. I just spoke to the seller and my rifle will be shipping this week- UPS 2nd day shipping too! We have to wait for 10 days once the rifle arrives at our LGS, but I will see it before Christmas!

BeachCityboy,
I'm very excited to see this rifle in person- this will be my first Ruger rifle, but I have shot others before (first time was a Ruger Mini-14 in High School). I also have a Ruger P95, so Ruger's reputation for quality is not unknown to me.

I'm looking at putting a Vortex Strike Eagle on this rifle- I've shot other rifles with this scope and liked the versatility of it, so I can't wait to see how the SR-556 performs with it as well. I just bought a Smith and Wesson M&P-15T a few weeks ago, so I'll have to wait until after the New Year to buy it, but I'm sure it will be worth it. I think I can live with iron sights for a few weeks.

Geno,

The stock trigger on the SR556 sucks. Drop a quality after market trigger in your gun when you get a chance.

Also look up YouTube videos on cleaning the gas piston. It's a very easy task.

Be sure and give us a range report after you've shot it.

Well my SR-556 finally made it to my LGS, now currently in CA gun jail, due to be released on 12/26/16. I'll post pics when I get it- going up to Oregon for Christmas, but will be back on 12/29.

I finally was able to pick up my SR-556 on the 30th- I had a gout flare up on the drive home, so I was dealing with that. But I did get it home.

I was finally able to shoot it l today- a buddy invited me to go shooting on public land, just east of Edwards AFB. I put about 75 rounds through her. We set up targets at 25, 50, 75, and 150 yds.- the iron sights were on the money, so I went for the longer distance targets. My 50 year-old eyes are useless past 50 yds, but I managed to hit the 150 yd. target 3 times on irons, so I'd say this rifle is pretty accurate. The heavy quad rail does help steady the rifle while shooting too.

I can't wait to get a scope on this rifle and see what kind of groups she can produce.

Geno

Just a pic with a Magpul CTR stock on it- The Hogue grip was pretty nice, so I left it on the rifle.
