I'm told that at the end of 2008, Ruger retooled and the Mini-14 became a much more accurate rifle. I would buy a new Mini-14 but I can't get the combination I want. I want: 1) plain wood stock 2) stainless shiny barrel 3) stainless action The current Mini-14 ranch comes only in blued. Someone told me that i can get everything I want in a 2009 Mini-14 ranch. Is this true, and if so, where can I get one? Doug |

Here's the link to the Ruger page showing all of the current production Mini's. I'm not certain they make what you're looking for, though you could quite easily buy an All Weather and fit a wood stock to it. http://www.ruger.com/products/mini14/firearms.html As far as the re-tooling and becoming more accurate, Ruger never announced any changes either at their sire, or in press releases. Maybe your source has some "inside" info. If the current 580's aren't accurate enough, and the Target model isn't an option, maybe the Mini isn't your rifle, considering you can't buy it configured the way you want it. Check out Davidson's #5842. Shows 99 in stock. If not wood stocks are easy to come by. Eric |

The new Mini Ranch rifles come in stainless and if you look around you might find one with a laminated stock. I saw one at a gun show 2 weeks ago. It looked good. kwg

I just bought an All-Weather Ranch, SS, synthetic stock and I love it. I don't understand why they don't offer it with a standard wood stock ('course then, it wouldn't be "All-Weather"). FYI, the SS Minis of the past were a higher luster (satin) stainless. The new ones are low-luster finish. Looks like a tumble finish. I know Remington has a custom shop - combinations of features that are not available standard. It would be a simple matter to assemble SS hardware into a standard wooden stock; without modification, I assume. Try contacting the factory directly. It might cost you a little extra but you have nothing to lose by asking. |

There are a ton of wood stocks floating around. Seargh e-bay and some of the others and you will find one. You will need some metal but Brownells and Midway have it and it's not too much. I got my last metal from a gun show. kwg
