I just got my AR-556 this week. Mine is not much different than the OP but is far and away not close to this one. Guess I might want to return mine also or have a smith look at it. In looking at the OP's and mine I don't see even enough metal to use for the staking, as compared to Scorpio's. How much is really needed?

It's very simple for s gunsmith to do. Just check the torque and use a punch to stake it. I had an Olympic that was not staked properly and had it done

No, not staked properly. Ruger sent it out this way, i'd have Ruger fix it like
it's suppose to be while giving the whole rifle an complete reinspection for
other problems. Keep it their problem.

Holy Old Thread Revival!
I too own an AR-556 with a BCG that has a gas key not staked properly. And, I called Ruger about it. They asked me to send a pic of the gas key bolts, which I did. They told me there was nothing that they could do because it was staked properly. SERIOUSLY? I will let you fine members be the judge of this. BTW, I replaced the BCG with a PSA Nickle Boron BCG, with gas key bolts staked PROPERLY!

I agree. That needs to be sent higher up on the Ruger QC Food Chain ladder regardless. Makes you wonder how many more are out there just like that one ???

Well... this could be like when I was in 1st grade and the nuns taught us about faith. Just because I couldn't SEE God, that didn't mean I shouldn't believe in Him...

Surprised it got out the door without being properly staked. Time is money, so someone probably passed it cause it was close to quitting time as has been said. Now they will have to re-do it.

That is terrible. There is no staking at all. I would use the "contact the CEO" feature on the Ruger site and send the photo and the comment from the customer service agent (include name if you have it). The upper levels of management need to be aware of this to prevent it from happening again.

So..........I've had my Ruger 556 about 3 months (200 rounds, maybe) and mine looks just like the above. Never looked at it until I saw this thread yesterday.
