I don't understand why you need compensator on a 5.56 AR.

I don't understand why someone goes to the expense and effort of hanging rails on their rifle just to cover them with plastic covers.

I don't understand why you need a butt pad on a 5.56 AR (LOP?)

I don't understand why folks replace the OEM plastic for MOE plastic unless the OEM gear is broken.

I don't understand why rifles with single point slings also have bipods.

Some guys build hotrod cars just for show but they're practically useless as daily drivers. Some guys do that with guns too and that's perfectly okay if you're doing it on purpose. My point is I think the line gets blurred and some folks are trying to build real world useful guns but they end up with a show car that has been customized to the point of ridiculousness.

Look, it's your money. You earned it. Spend it any way you want. It's none of my business. It just seems to me that sometimes folks just start buying stuff and hanging it on their rifles without giving it much thought.
Some guys like the compensators to reduce the muzzle climb... I can see it for competition use.

Folks replace the OEM hand guards with Magpul because the OEM does not have heat shields on the Ruger AR 556. Also, they may like the look or feel of the Magpul guard and it allows for accessory attachments.

I'm with ya on the rest, but to each their own.

I guess its a matter of opinion, but to me all "plastic" is not the same. Mainly due to texturing and shape. To me the stock AR556 hand guard was slick feeling. The Magpul MOE slim I put on it is easier to hold. The replacement butt stock I put on has a rubber pad that makes recoil easier on my shoulder.

Then there is the coloring issue. The stock rifle is all black; I put a "stealth grey" butt stock, pistol grip, and hand guard on it. Just a matter of preference, but I like having colors to swap out. I also have a set of Magpul MOE khaki I can put on if I feel like it. So I can go with grey, black, or khaki on the rifle.

Just picked mine up Friday, paid $570 OTD!
Added a Magpul MOE stock, Colt carry handle, UTG PRO drop in rail. Also picked up a CMMG 22lr bolt conversion for it and it works great!!

Next once my order arrives will be a BCM Mod 4 charging handle, Magpul XTM handstop, KNS target front sight post & Surefire Procomp muzzle brake....

Update......

I switched out the Bushnell TRS-25 for a Vortex StrikeFire II. Have yet to do more than "quasi-zero" it with a laser bore sight, hopefully I'll be able to hit the range in the next week or two.

FWIW- I changed out the factory furniture for Magpul MOE....because I could.

Just added a few new parts.
Replaced the UTG rail with Magpul MOE handguards, added KNS front sight post, Magpul PRO buis, GI sling, Surefire Procomp brake, and a BCM mod3 charging handle.
The new sight post makes it really nice for long range accuracy! I used the smallest post the kit came with.
The Surefire brakes really makes a difference in recoil and muzzle rise, not that the recoil is bad!
Next will be a scope or red-dot.

Hey, F16Deuce, I see that you have the newer magpie hand guard. I have one coming. Was it a straightforward install? I have heard that they can be a bear getting installed on the Ruger.

Nice looking rifle Corey! I didn't know a free float hand guard like that was an option because of the front sight post gas block issues I've been hearing about. Would you mind letting me know how u did that as I want a hand rail very similar.

Phil your ruger ar 556 is awesome too. I want mines to look like that. I just got it yesterday and was getting worried because of the whole hand guard issue people are talking about. How did you get the hand rail on there?

thanks, the front a2 sight came off really easy, pins went from left to right, the only issue I had was removing the barrel nut. I was literally hanging off the floor with an armorers wrench and a torque wrench and it wouldn't budge. I saw somewhere on this forum that someone put his whole upper in the freezer to remove the barrel nut, so that's what I did, and it worked like a charm.

Thanks Phil. Is that a free float rail? Also would I have to change the gas block to a low profile one in order to put that same type of rail on mines?

yes, it is a free float rail, and you would have to put on a low profile gas block to mount one.
