This form and youtube were my friend in my search for my needs, I went with a clamp on style.

Thanks everyone.

I'm wondering how much weight all the "mods." add to the rifle?

I sure someone has mentioned this before but when you use the word porn in a post a lot of servers block acess to the post. I'm sure myself and other miss a lot of good stuff because of it.

Very good question. I started with my first AR, an RRA Elite CAR A4 (16" middy with a HBAR) back 15 years ago and immediately starting adding things. Before I knew it my 'carbine' was an 11.5lb loaded lug that was a pain to carry around.

I woke up one day and said, "This carbine is suppose to be a light weight so what do I need to do to make it that way?" Well, I started taking off all those things I added, then I sent out the upper to ADCO to have Steve reprofile the barrel to a lightweight, shorten it to 14.7", and then pin on an A2 FH. I replaced the buttstock with a MagPul CTR and the handguard with a MOE.

Now it weighs a svelt, 5lbs 15oz empty, 7lbs 0oz with a 30rd full mag. At 4.5lbs lighter, it's a ton more fun to carry and shoot. It's nimble and feels like it's supposed to. BTW, I now also have a scoped 20" AR for long range stuff like shooting apples at 400-500yds.

Minimal weight gain from the riser, TRS-25, rear sight, and fore grip. Weight was saved with the Minimalist stock, charging handle, and hand guard. I should have weighed it before and after. I would bet less than a 6-8 oz gain overall.

I finally got around to shooting my AR556 at an outdoor range - just got home from it, in fact. After a couple of FTFs in the factory mag, it just kept on shooting - different brands of both 556 and 223. The delta ring did come loose but that was because I didn't tighten it much when I installed the quad rail. The Hexmags (all 3 colors) worked very well on both AR556 and my other build. Loaded fine, shot fine, ejected fine.

My config for the range, but I changed to the Hogue stock and grip shortly thereafter.

This will be my final config, I think... Maybe!
Grip & Buttstock: Hogue
Quad Rail: Monstrum Tactical
Foregrip: CAA
Scope: Primary Arms
Magazines: Hexmag

COSteve

Thanks that is what I was wondering. My picture of the Ruger AR556 is a light to moderate weight carbine that's easy to scope, to put in the truck & that'll be accurate enough for chance encounters with a Coyote out to about 300yds.
Unrealistic?

OK, let me get this right....you spent a whole lot more money than you would have had if you had just built your own AR.. Just because you wanted it to say Ruger??? 😒
hate to break it to you but that is financially irresponsible👎🏼 and rather stupid😂😂😂

The one at the top is kind of what I had invisioned, a go anywhere rifle relativily light to pack, iron sights available, & accurate enough for Coyotes to 300yds? But is that the one that weighed 11.5lb one?
Thanks for sharing.
