Mini Thirty 5 Round Magazines

Mini Thirty Tactical 582 series.
At the range last week I was using official Ruger 5 round Mini Thirty magazines.
I have 2.
Short story is it is very difficult to put a 5 round mag with 5 rounds in it into the (my) rifle with the bolt closed. YMMV
Bolt open, no problem.
In fact, it was so hard that I never got either one locked into the rifle and I pushed really hard.
With 4 rounds, the 5 round mag went in on a closed bolt but it took a fair amount of pushing to get it to lock.
In contrast, a couple different full 20 round Ruger mags locked in on a closed bolt without excessive effort.
I am curious if others are seeing the same thing with their 5 round mags.
Thanks.

I have a Mini-14 and it has the same problem. I'm not sure what the issue is but I'm not sweating it. Of course I live in a state where 20 rounds mags are okay so I rarely use the 5 round mag.

I suspect it has to do with the rocking motion required to insert Mini mags. Without the extra length of the longer magazines it's difficult to get the correct angle to properly catch the lug inside the mag well. The longer length mags also give you better leverage to seat the magazine.

I can seat my 5 round magazine but I have to fiddle around to get it done. Definitely not a speed load or combat loading exercise.

I agree completely; not a big deal.
Putting 5 rounds in the two 5 round mags I have takes some extra force to get the fifth round in.
I'm thinking that the spring is just about fully compressed after the fifth round is in and there is just no room to force the top round down enough to let the mag seat.
BTW, the factory mag followers in the Ruger 5 and 20 mags are different.
FWIW
Thanks

Same thing with my Mini 30. I picked up a Ruger 5 round mag just for grins and giggles a while back. Thought it would fit in my closet better without barking my knees on the longer mags sticking out of the M-30. I used it at the range for the first time yesterday. Like all of you I had all of the same issues. It was cold out too. I'll not buy another 5 round mag. It will just be for closet use so to speak. No more trips to the range with the little one for me. :) OK. Maybe as a zombie attack last resort but that's it.
Oh, BTW- I ran a box of Silver Bear ammo through mine yesterday and it went bang without a hitch. The 30 ate 'em like potato chips. Same for the WPS ammo. Tulammo I experience FTFs. Anyone else experience something similar? Thanks---
