Probably a smart move on Ruger's part. Stop the image bleeding.

Based on this forum, sounds like S/N's in the high 7000's are ok.

The 762 is a nice rifle. Good balance, great accuracy. Just get a late production model that works.

I'm getting pretty close to deciding whether this is the platform I want and thought I'd go to Cabela's (Lehi, UT) to give it another look before making a final decision. I decided to call ahead to see if they were in stock and was informed by the rep that all their 762s were recalled by Ruger last week.

I'm curious if anyone else has heard rumors of a recall. I wanted to ask what the serial # range was on their inventory, but figured they probably hadn't a clue.

Again, thanks for everyone's input and advice to other's in my situation.
Welcome....I'd be surprised if Ruger recalled all their SR762 inventory from Cabela's but I guess it could happen. The only recall on a rifle that I know about is the SR556VT but that's a 556 round and only one specific model.

This rifle certainly had it share of new intro problems but by the looks of it all that is dying down tremendously. I would certainly buy a later serial number SR762 with confidence....and I did about 5 weeks ago. No problems with that or with the earlier version I bought and returned to Ruger, which now functions flawlessly. I'm not sure what you're considering but I know that the Sig 716 is still problematic and its been out quite a bit longer than the Ruger 762....I think Ruger has done a good job in correcting the original flaws....others will chime in to correct me if I'm wrong.....

okay I have found out that Ruger says that the problem is due to the thicker lips on that Gen 3 pmags ...I got this information from Jeff who from gunblast.com ....and that is why they made the redesign of the ruger 762 so if you could look at that picture that somebody put up on this thread showing the bolt catche on two different 762... you want the one with the smaller gap below it....

okay I guess that picture is not in this thread I can't seem to find it anywhere so if somebody knows where it is that would be cool of them to point people in the right direction so they can figure out which design they have

I believe they had multiple problems. They have replaced too many uppers under warranty for this just to be a magazine related problem.

I believe the same thing to a point.... because it would not explain why the metal mags were not working either.... but they have redesigned the lower that is for sure....so I'm thinking most of the problems come from the magazine and that's why people send it in twice and get a new gun. I think the whole upper thing is them trying to avoid replacing the serial numbered part which is The lower ....they probably have some tweaks that they Try to do to the upper before they replace the whole gun .....so if I was anybody sending a gun in now I would definitely ask for the redesigned gun... but I do also believe like you were saying.... that there are other problems because the metal mags were not working either and they have stayed the same...

In my personal experience with the Sr 762 my rifle has FTF and
FTE once in the 160-180 rnds down range with a serial #of EARLY 4000s I've had no issues!
Very happy with the rifle and during that malfunction I was using 24 yo Venezuelan 150 g
Switch to setting 3 ate it up back 2 setting 2 and at 40 rnd pmc 20 hornady amax 40 Winchester white box.and the rest of Venezuelan stuff on 3.all with dpms mags which came with it!

that's good to hear... but there's no denying that they had some sort of problem because they changed the design a little bit you may not be able to use the gen 3 P mags... which would suck .. I'm kind of curious I want to buy some of those DPMS mags for my gun and see how they work.. I wonder where your bolt catches Is placed ..maybe you could give us a picture of it...my serial number is in the mid 5000 and it came with gen3 Pmags ..I have not had any failures yet (cross my fingers) (1000 rounds)

from what it looks like to me it looks like you got a good one..... your bolt catch from what I can tell by the picture (it's a little blurry ) but it looks like it's very close to the mag release that's the design change they made ...the old one is further away from the mag release
