I am sure that you guys have heard this question before but here is goes again. I received this pistol a couple of years ago from my friend (his father purchased the gun). So I know this is Ruger Mark I made is '51 due to the serial number and it is a Red Eagle. I also have the instruction manual, which is a bit weathered but it is over 60 years old. The manual is a bit deteriorated on a portion of the front but the rest of it looks great. You can still see everything and I really think it is in great shape. In case you were wondering the July 1, 1950 price for a magazine was $3.00 for a complete magazine.

I love collecting guns, but this isn't too dearest to my heart, plus I want to purchase something new. I was wondering what a pistol like this would fetch on gunbroker or the like. I really have no idea what the going market is for a Red Eagle like this. Please let me know what you guys think.

Hi dmesposito

What you have there is technically a Standard, not a Mark I. Standards had fixed sights, Mark Is had adjustable sights. Moreover, only the Standards were offered in the 4 1/2" barrel that you gun has. A lot of people don't make that distinction, but it will make a difference as to value. The models with the adjustable sights, the Mark Is, are more desirable and will command a higher price than the fixed sight Standards.

A red eagle model is always a desirable thing to anyone who loves Rugers, absolutely. A serious collector, though, would probably pass on your gun because it does not have the original box and all the papers and is not in new condition. That leaves folks like me who just love those old Standards and might be willing to pay a bit extra for a red eagle model. Again, without the box and all the papers, you'll probably only get a bit more for that red eagle. If it helps, I can find plenty of the later black eagle Standards in our area in similar condition for $250 to a bit over $300, some even with the box and papers. I doubt a red eagle will double that value, but you never know until you try, especially if you put your gun up for auction. Best of luck.
