new to this site as a poster but a repeat visitor. I just acquired a 1960 vintage A54 frame pre Mk1 built by Jim Clark. I'm familiar with the Mk2 but a few questions if I may.
1. will major parts (trigger, disconector, hammer, sear and mag release interchange between pre- Mk1's and Mk2's?
2. The gun came with a beautiful set of Herretts Bullseye grips, but I'm left handed and can't use them, does anyone have or know of a source of L/H grips to buy or trade for, preferably thumbrest target grips.
When I get a chance, I will post photos of the Clark when I get pics and figure out how to post.
Thanks for any help. Brad

Hi

Sounds like a beauty. Yes, most of the major parts for the MKII will work on the MKI, though you may have to do some fitting on individual guns with parts such as the sear, safety and so on. I have a '65 MK I and have replaced the sear, recoil spring assembly and upgraded with a VQ extractor with no problem, though.

The grips, though, are actually going to be the biggest headache. Darn hard to find original wooden grips for the A54 frame - see the sticky at the top of the rimfire forum to know how to identify the A54 from the A100 - nor did Ruger offer left hand thumb rest grips. Haven't been able to find anyone who lists Mk I A54 frame grips in the aftermarket grip world, either. Closest I've found is Tombstone Grips but I'm sure someone could make you a set of custom grips.

Thanks for the welcome ...

Marta2000 thanks for the greeting

North Country Gal, I do have the early A54 as the grip screw holes do not align with my Mk2 grips and the reciever does not say Mk1. I'm aware of Tombstone and may have to use their services just not fond of the waiting period.

James6951, G'Day from sunny Fla. Enjoyed the heck out of the Aus Open and someday hope to visit Rod Laver Stadium, I posted a pic of my Mk2 in photo section but will wait with the Clark till I find some grips, hopefully soon...

Welcome from AZ.
I wish you the very best of luck finding the grip panels. Your post came up while talking to a knowledgable friend in the business who has stacks of vintage stuff in the back room...said whenever he comes across the pre-A100 stocks they go in a special box, and that box has been empty for quite some time.
