Mklll Long or Short Barrel?

I am wanting to buy a Ruger Mklll pistol. I like the looks of the 6 7/8" Barrel. I am just going to use it for target shooting, and I won't be carrying it in a holster. Which do you like the best . . . the 5 1/2" bull barrel or the 6 7/8" barrel? Please give your reasons for your preference and any comparisons that you have to help me to decide which one to buy.

I have a MKII with a 6 7/8 in barrel and a MKIII with a 5.5 bull barrel. Both are great shooting pistols and are both accurate. Saying that, I like the longer sight radius of the MKII.

I prefer the shorter barrel - 4.4 is good, not longer than 5". I am looking for a Blacklite - and there seem to be none anywhere. When (many years ago) I shot on our base pistol team my favorite weapon was the 1911 accurrized .45, which I shot in the center fire and the 45 matches. The 45 has a 5" barrel. I did pretty well with it, made it to Master shooter in 9 months.

I have 2 5 1/2" target. I like a little less weight out front so I can shoot longer sessions of bullseye with less arm fatigue. Over a day and 500 plus rounds, that couple ounces makes a difference, and least to my 65 year old arm.

If you're shooting iron sights, there is an advantage to you, the shooter, to have a longer barrel. That longer sighting radius makes for more precise hold.

If your shooting scope or red dot, a short barrel is just as accurate as a long barrel.

My wife got the hunter with the long barrel, even though it is heavey, for her the ballance works better and she would rather deal with the weight. She only shoots with a two handed grip. She loves it.

I have them in 4.2", 5.5", and 6.8". I prefer the shortest. Their is no difference in accuracy between the three. The shortest is lighter and funner in action shooting steels. I like the change up now and then but always start and stop with the short barrel. Problem is finding one as the Hunter in 4.2" is discontinued and the Talo version is a white whale. My best shooting buddy has had one on order for 13 months now.
