I've fired the Sig Mosquito, I wasn't impressed and it jammed several times. I own 2x SR22 pistols, while not target pistols they do a good job. I can consistently hit an 8" plate at 25 yards, they rarely jam and they handle cheap Ammo well for me. Keep them clean and they function well.

I don't know what it is, they are just fun to shoot and feel like shooting a "real" gun. I don't know why, but the target pistols are just boring to me, not enough fun in them. For competition, however, I'd go with a good target pistol, the objective is a little different.

Imo The SR22 is the best of it's type on the market. The P22's have a cast zinc slide that some are deforming and they only like hi end ammo. My 2 SR's will eat anything I feed them. Mostly Federal bulk Walmart. They'not MK's but they weren't supposed the be.

I bought a SR22-CT a little over a month ago and have put 1855 rds thru it with no problems encountered. The gun has been nothing short of fantastic, I have put three types of rds; 750 rds of CCI-Blazer; 555 rds of Winchester White bulk and 550 rds of Federal Bulk.
My vote is for the SR22...

The Mosquito is not made by Sig Sauer, it is made by it's holding company Umarex and does not represent the quality of the name it bears. Stay away.

I can't advise on the little SR22, but I would highly recommend the 22/45, all the benefits of a substantial modern handgun.

I have owned a couple Buckmarks over the years, and they're a fine gun, but the Ruger Marks are, IMHO more dependable, and at least as accurate.

I agree SR22 is no where near as accurate as a Mark pistol. Also way better than the Sig Mosquito. If you want a plinker and accuracy only about 15 yards get the SR22. I love mine just because it is just fun and cheap to shoot. Have shot 500 rounds through it total and just chuckle every time I have it out.

I just traded a Mosquito today for a SR22. I am SOOOO much happier. The Sig was a jam master even with mini-mags. The SR shot everything I put in with only 2 jams, and they were because of crappy ammo. The ammo I was shooting was 20yrs old and had been banging around in a bag and stored in a hot/cold garage, Etc... Still only had 2 jams in over 400rds. The Sig would have choked every Mag at least.

As for accuracy, my bull barrel MKI will shoot circles around the SR22. But the grip on the SR is small and the gun is light and my small 10yr old son fell in love with shooting it. The MKI slide is hard for him to rack. He was racking the SR slide like a pro.

If you looking for fun, the SR is it. If your looking for accuracy get the MK. Better yet, get both and have the best of both worlds.

The Sig Mosquito and the Walther P22 both have cast zinc slides. There are more than a few reports of the slides chipping and cracking. Both have a reputation for jams, the Mosquito especially.

Ruger's SR-22 has an investment cast aluminum slide, much better.

I have owned a MkII stainless, 4", a MkIII 22/45, 4" and now the SR22. None were target pistols. My favorite is the SR22..small light, fast and accurate. Barrel is only 1/2" shorter than the Mk's that I owned and I believe, just as accurate.

My Mk's were both ammo sensitive...preferring one or two brands. However the SR22 doesn't care. It shoots whatever I want to put in it.

For plinking and just plain fun......SR22
For serious target......Mk's in a target model.

This is probably a great answer right here. Different guns for different applications, I guess. Can't go wrong with either. If I had the budget, I'd throw an SR22 in my range bag for shooting tin cans.

I have no experience with the mosquito. I've shot the SR22 plenty and don't think much about its looks ergonomics or finish. It did ftf quite a bit but to be fair it was a rental. If you reasearch thee forum I think you'll find that the sr22 owners are split 50/50 on their impressions of it.
I've also shot the M&P 22 and am damn impressed with it. Ill be picking one up for sure. You should consider it.

I could not possibly agree more. That sums it up better than I've seen anywhere else.

I have to disagree with the first part and agree with the second.
I think if you took an informal poll of SR22 owners you'd find about 98% love it. There were a few that had problems but everyone that I've talked to and read about said Ruger took care of it. It's just a fun little pistol to take to the range.

I read up on the M&P22 and it looks like about the same ratio. Almost all of the people who bought it say it runs well and is a blast to shoot. It seems to cost a little more than the SR22 at most LGS and only comes with one mag, but as a plus it is a 12 rounder so...yeah... whatever that's worth to you.

the sig mosquito works fine if you use the recommended ammo--CCI Mini Mags. Otherwise it will not function reliably with .22 brick ammo.

so, consider that before you buy it, but it's a fun gun to shoot--it'll just cost you a hair more.

Gotta disagree. My Mosquito didnt shoot very good with CCI mini-mags either. And the trigger was terrible too. I traded it for a SR22. The SR ate everything and though the trigger isn't perfect, it's 100% better than the Sig.
