New Ruger Mark III 22/45 Coming!

Hey Ruger Rimfire gang,

I just joined your ranks and I am excited as a newly wed.

I bought a new old stock (NOS) Mark III 22/45 over the weekend, the discontinued model and I'll be able to pick it up on 10/20. It has a stainless 5.5 inch bull barrel and the polymer frame. I was at the LGS checking out his Marks IIIs, it was the 22/45 that called to me.

There is one hitch though, it has several gougings at the barrel(crown end). I asked the LGS for another specimen, unfortunately the last 2 he has are it. Both have those gougings. Not sure if the gougings/scratches was due to the LGS uncareful handling, or from the factory.

The gougings are more cosmetic flaws and will not affect the functioning since the actual barrel boreend is clear.

How do you propose I should handle those scratches, should I send the gun back to the factory for recrowing or just live with those imperfections???

I am still happy to get the gun.

Pictures are worth a 1000 words. Hard to have an opinion with out some pictures. How much did you pay?

NOS MKIII sounds suspicious to me.

Which model? MKIII is pretty new stuff. Gouges in the crown can be serious, but the crown can be recut by a good gunsmith. Shame to go there on a new gun.

I was in a GS that had a steel frame that held pistols up at a angle by sliding the bore down a bare steel rod. I'd never buy a gun there. There no way any of those could not have damaged rifling. Just my opinion.

What was the retail on the MKIII? My MkIII lite (the last MK I bought) was $450 a couple months ago.

Should not be marked.

Guys,

I think I've used the wrong term in my OP. Instead of " gouging " the proper term should have been " nicks and scratches ".

Guys,

It is a 22/45 with a 5.5 inch bull barrel, polymer frame. I find the looks quite pleasing because it is two-tone.

Also, it is not " gouging " but " nicks and scratches ". Most likely due to the LGS clumsy handling, I don't know.

If the nicks and scratches are just on the outer barrel stainless steel surface, then a simple polishing with a green scotch-brite pad is all that is necessary to remove them. If the nicks and scratches are on the muzzle crown area then someone should have been discounting that damaged material, oh wait you're in California where you have to settle for whatever is on the State Attorney General's approved firearms list, new condition or damaged. Sorry, but you didn't get the best price based on the description you've provided and the LGS knows it.

I paid $369.00 out the Door for my 22/45 LITE Mk.III, cancel it if you can and be patient and look for a good deal.

Good Rule of Thumb on Ruger is;
What ever List Price is figure $100.00 Less this is the out the door Price all fee included.

Find the list price on Rugers site.

I would write down some list pricing off Rugers sight then go back to your LGS and see how their pricing compares to the $100.00 off list, ask what fees would be on top of the price of the gun.

It may also be that it is a discontinued model, that you cannot get they want to capitalize on it.

It may be worth it to you if you really like the gun, Ruger does Not offer a 22/45 Mk.III in stainless any more. They are less prone to rust.

I checked a lot of sites to see if I could find you one at a better price, that gun is very difficult to find,

I would go for it if it were me, you will love the gun, dont worry about how much you paid for it.

Gun Broker has the following, Stainless steel 22/45 Mk.III for sale you be the judge

Ruger 10146 22/45 mk iii 22lr new fluted SS 22 lr $485.00 price + fees

The exchange had one for $425.00 + fees

That was the only S.S. 22/45 Mk. III,

I paid $365 for my new model 3900 Ruger Mark III 22/45 lite, plus shipping, plus a $25 FFL transfer fee. The total was around $405. (I forget exactly)

LGS didn't have one, and didn't know when he'd be able to get one.

And I didn't go bargain shopping when I found it on Gun-Broker. I paid the asking price. I could have probably found a little better deal, but I wanted it right then.

I paid $309.00 out the door for my SR22P
and $269.00 for my 10/22TD Take Down

These were all bought at the LGS.

Guns in my area are reasonable, No tax in Oregon, and NO Limitations

There are 5 Very large gun stores near by and another 10 very large GS in the near by cities

Thanks a lot, westgl!

With the prices you quoted, I think I was in the ballpark. You are right, the last two models of the stainless 22/45 were it. Those were the last the LGS has. And according to two more LGS I contacted, that model is indeed hard to find(5.5 inch STAINLESS bull barrel and polymer frame).

Again, it was tagged at $418.00 minus other incidental fees. What bothered me were the nicks and scratches to which the LGS wouldn't want to budge because " they are hard to find and discontinued ".

That said, I will go back tomorrow to cancel the deal as I am not interested in the gun anymore, after the initial flurry of annoyance---------- I am weird that way.

Thanks again for your feedback.
