Thumbs up Really like my New SR22P!

I just picked up a NIB SR22P on SEP 6th 2012. I really like this gun!

I started looking at .22lr in order to get target practice in without breaking the bank. I was on the fence.

I originally was going to get a .22lr conversion for my G17, but after reading reports of the conversion being picky about the ammo that it would shoot, I decided to go with a .22lr pistol.

My first choice was the Sig Mosquito and second I was interested in the Walther P22 or S&W M&P 22.

I was in the military and the Sig brand recognition is legendary. I figured that I would love to pick up a Sig .22, since the rest of their stuff is so awesome (IMHO). The same was true with the Walther P22. I know that the PPK and several other Walthers have been doing duty in the UK for quite some time and the company has fairly good brand recognition. I stayed away from the S&W because the take-down was more complicated and the price was significantly higher.

I never really considered Ruger, since I really only thought of Ruger as a target shooting gun and never liked the looks of the Mark pistols. It did not occur to me that Ruger had been doing .22lr before it was cool.

I saw an SR22 in the LGS and my wife liked it better than the Sig or the Walther and she liked the price better than the S&W. I did some research and based on all of the information I could get, the SR22 seemed to fit what I was looking for better than the other two pistols (Sig & Walther).

I got the SR22 and am very glad that I did! I have only put about 555 rds through it so far, but I absolutely love this gun. I used the Winchester bulk pack of ammo from walmart (555 rds "white box" 36grain, 1280fps, hollow point copper plated). I had minimal problems. I think I had about five FTF total. I did not take any care or precaution in loading the mags. I just cranked the thumb lever down all the way and dropped the rounds in the mag. If they tumbled, I would shake them out again and then put them back in. They looked kinda hodge podge bunched up when the mag was fully loaded, but I just put it in anyway and fired away. Out of the 5 FTF that I had, about three were on the second round in a magazine. I think this may have to do with my mag loading procedure or lack thereof.

Like I said....I love this gun so far and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable plinker. The accuracy is pretty good as well..Heck, I have even toyed with the thought of carrying it as a CCW. My current CCW EDC is my G17 Gen 4....I look forward to many happy days at the range with this SR22P and from my experience so far, It looks like I will not be disappointed!!

Really like mine. Put a Crimson Trace CMR-201 Rail Master Laser Sight on it, wow, more fun than you can stand!

Yes you've made a good choice I have two of them. A word of advice about loading the mags. Pull the spring down for each round only, and slap the back of the loaded mag aganist the plam of your hand to made sure the rounds are fully seated at the back of the mag. This will elminate some feeding problems. Enjoy you new gun.

thanks for the advice on mag loading!...I think that if I take more care when loading the magazines and slap the back as you suggested, that I will have fewer feeding issues (not that I have had many anyway).....again thanks for the advice!!

Had a few FTF early on but now it is just sweet shootin'. I feel it may have been light loads. Also I check the barrel screw quite often and it has stayed tight.

I have FTF every so often.. It is almost always the second round in the magazine....the barrel screw on mine is tight as well....I have been using the cheapest ammo I can find....so far have only put the winchester "white box" 555 ammo through it...the FTF always fire once re-racked, so it is good practice....

took the wife shooting today on the SR22 and she did awesome...she has not shot a gun for years...this gun is perfect for getting her back into it....again, really happy with this gun...it is great to have a product that meets or exceeds expectations....I have not been so fortunate in the past...I appreciate Ruger for producing a great value-priced firearm that performs well....

Got mine with mama in mind and she loves it! I put a laser on it so it has made it even easier to get good hits. If I hadn't gotten it she wouldn't go to the range anymore. The LCP scares gere because of the noise and recoil but she will shoot my .38 S&W occasionally. She says she feels like "Dirty Harry" shooting it?
Enjoy what I think is another great Ruger.
Tony
PS Shot side by side with the Walther and the two aren't even close in quality and accuracy!

you mentioned shooting side by side with the walther and the difference in quality and accuracy, but it was not clear which one was better quality/more accurate......was it the walther or ruger that was better quality/more accurate in your opinion?

The Ruger by far IMHO. General grip on SR22 is much more comfortable, I use the "fat grip" and my wife, with much smaller hands likes the feel of it. The look really is different too, the Ruger just looks more "space age" to me? The trigger in SA and DA is way more smooth, again IMHO. My buddy who owns the Walther bought it for the same reason as me but the SR22 wasn't available to handle so he bought the Walther on name only (Walther has made some fantastic pocket guns but this isn't one of them). He had major buyer's remorse and asked to shoot mine several more times that day. After twice with the Walther, I let his sit and shot my other guns while he put almost 200 of his .22LR ammo through my gun. I looked over and he was grinning at one point from the tight groups at 7 yds. I know that's not the greatest test but it's really very accurate at 7 and even beyond.

I'm not a big fan of lasers but the SR22 is a blast with the Crimson Trace Rail Master.
