click on trigger pull

howdy all.
bought a nice bull barrel mkIII a couple of months ago. i can not recall if my problem was present before my initial dis-assembly or not, but after cocking i get a noticeable click w/in the first mm of trigger travel. this is most present w/ a mag in, and alittle softer click when no mag is inserted after it is cocked. and with out cocking it it is there, but just barely. i have since taken it to the range and fired off just over a hundred shots w/ no problems. does anyone else experience this? this is just a small annoyance and i would like to have a smooth trigger pull. any help would be appreciated. besides, i need to get my 10 posts or whatever so i can start searching the forums!!

The click you hear is just the sound of the pistol's disconnector bar engaging the sear. This is a normal operation for Ruger 22 Auto Pistols, some pistols just have their disconnectors tuned a little less and that sound is masked by the closing of the bolt. If you don't get that sound with your pistol you will notice that the trigger feels as if it is not connected to anything - which is what the disconnector lever does in case the bolt is not fully closed.

The reason the click sounds less when a magazine is not installed is because in a Mark III pistol the magazine disconnector safety hook has captured the sear, preventing it from moving, and is dampening the sound.

My Mark III has the same click. Your pistol is not defective. Everyone's does it to some degree. I grew up shooting S&W and High Standard target pistols so when I started with the Mark III, I was a bit annoyed with the trigger. I still enjoy shooting it but I wouldn't consider the Ruger Marks as true competition-grade pistols because of it, just a good plinking gun.
