I have been shooting a S & W Model 22A for 4 months now. Used about 500 rounds of spinner target and shoot-n-c paper in the 50 yard and under range. It is an outstanding semi-auto. Many folks labeled the 22A as a POS...Well maybe some are...Some of every model from everywhere are bound to be lemons...but My experience with the Smith and Wesson has been fantastic. For $225 with a box and warranty and spare Mag, I can't complain.

Here it is before and after adding a cheapie red-dot to play with.

I had the same duo-tone, I put 961 flawless rounds through it before trading it for a Bersa Nickel Thunder 380

If you have the P22

I have the SR22P it is a Great gun for CCW, just because of its size. Mine has been flawless and Rugers warranty is awesome.

I also have the MarkII, Look at some threads, most people would prefer the mark II over the Mark III.

The Mark III can be upgraded through to have a better MarkII trigger, $$, but then you have all that MarkIII safety crap to deal with.

With all that said there is nothing like a new gun, weather it is new or just new to you.

For just a Really accurate pistol the MarkII is my favorite it has the 6-7/8" barrel. It is Very accurate

For just fun shooting the SR22P is a really Fun pistol to shoot, but it is not quite as accurate to shoot, but it is close or maybe i am not as proficient with it yet. i only have 500 rounds through mine so far.

If I was me, I would get one of each, problem solved.

Brand new SR22P and a used MarkII

Personally, I want to get a S&W M&P22, they are a full sized frame and hold 12 shot Magazines, and have a longer barrel than the SR22P, and are much more accurate than the SR22P at a longer distances, probabley due to them having less flip as they are a little heavier so hitting the target on a double or triple tap would be easier.

M&P22
24 ounces
4.1" long barrel
12 round mags +1

SR22P
17.5 Ounces
3.5" long Barrel
10 Round Mags +1

I would Love to have a 22/45 4.0" barrel Target Mark III with a volks trigger and hammer, mag disconnect, converted to a Mark II

Well I was wanting a Ruger 22/45 Lite Mark III, if that tells you anything.

Just bought one this morning $360.00 out the door.

I own a few .22lr pistols. The one that represents the best overall value is:

Ruger MKIII Standard, 4.75" Barrel. I got mine on sale for $299. It's built like a tank, and is amazingly accurate in my hands. It's not ammo sensitive. It hasn't failed me over thousands of rounds. (Stay away from Remington Thunderbolt. It leaded up my bore so bad that within 25 rounds I experienced key-holing)

The Luger like grip angle is very easy on the wrist, and makes the gun a natural pointer.

Pair it up with a McFadden Ultimate Clip Loader.

The key to using the McFadden Ultimate Clip Loader is to give the channel a light spritz of RemOil. The rounds just fall into the magazines. I can load 5 mags in under a minute.

I like plinking with a Single six too, but don't overlook the Browning Buckmark.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Ruger Mark III (or Mark II, if you can find one). I've had a Mark II for 30 years, shot it a heck of a lot and it's still reliable and accurate. The only downside is that the Marks (I, II, and III) are not the easiest pistols to field strip and reassemble.

You specified a semi-auto, but I'd strongly recommend you look at a Single-Six; it's accurate, fun to shoot, tougher than a $2 steak and - if you get the convertible - you can run .22 Magnums through it if you need a little more "authority" (for particularly tough turtles, maybe). I have one that I got about 20 years ago and I've used it to teach my wife and two sons how to shoot handguns - they all love it.

I've got a 22/45 Target and just got a 22/45 Lite. I enjoy plinking with both of them!

And I second the "Ultimate Cliploader".

PS. I also second the comment about there being plenty of cans (leave the turtles alone...)
