VQ Sear

Well, I did it... with help from my son!

We did the VQ sear replacement, overall not to bad. Will try it out in the AM, it does fell "crisper" now and a tad louder (clear snap).

I can not wait though for the Sam Lam bushing to arrive, get rid of that whole magazine in and out stuff....

Detailed takedown and cleaning will be so much easier!

Actually used a sheet that was sent to me by Sam Lam.

It had clear and easy to follow info, good photo's.

But I must add that I did review your pages a while back to see what I was getting into before ordering the parts.

Yours is a very helpful site with great info, I recommend it to folks all the time.

Sam and I have had some good conversations in the past, he's using the design I conceived to make his replacement bushings.

I created those help pages back when the Ruger instruction manuals were sadly lacking. Helped a lot of folks who were stuck with guns that wouldn't operate because of the manual.

Well,

I firmly believe that you sight is just about the most informative site when it comes to the Ruger mk series.

You can not find such detail anywhere else, I believe, even Ruger itself.

Those pages have, more then likely, helped thousand of gun owners!

Well done !!

I have gotten lots of "thank you" emails over the years from Ruger 22 Auto owners.

I will also say that Ruger has made many improvements to their instruction manuals since the my help web pages went up. Many of my customers have told me they've called Ruger and asked why don't your instructions have the same details as ones found on the internet. Since then they've updated the manual's cartoonlike drawings to include better pictures and procedural directions for their products.

Ruger and I have had many discussions too, some good, some not so good. They weren't very happy with me back in 2004 when I pointed out to them that the new Model Mark III pistol had a major design flaw with the all metal LCI which could result in an accidental discharge without anyone touching the trigger and all the pistol's safeties engaged. They called me a liar and said it was impossible because they had meticulously tested them before launching the Mark III line and had not found any possible way the discharges could occur. Ruger then also said their technical lab could not duplicate the failure, even after I carefully described the procedures on how to accomplish it with just a simple rubber hammer. They stuck firmly to that claim, right up until I sent them a private video clip of the gun firing under those exact circumstances. They immediately shut down the production line, for two months, and completely redesigned the LCI to prevent a loaded cartridge from firing when the LCI lever was struck by a hard object. Which is why all the Mark III's come with the two-piece plastic and metal LCI's today. I got a nice "thank you" letter from Steve Sanetti, then Ruger CEO, after that one.

My real goal over the years has always been to keep Ruger owners out on the firing line enjoying their pistols, instead of waiting by the mailbox to get their pistols back from the repair shop. I'm all about promoting the shooting sports. Which is why my web forum and web help pages have no sponsors or advertisements. I pay for everything myself. I do not accept donations nor sponsors; that way I'm beholding to no one when it comes to recommendations of specific products or repairs. I don't even promote my own business on those pages.

If we all don't promote the shooting sports, it will die on the vine and be lost to future generations. Take a new shooter out and show them how to enjoy shooting safely!
