| Shot my 22/45 LITE for the first time
Went out to shoot the new 22/45 LITE today and found the trigger a bit stiffer than expected. Is this something that will lighten up after some use or is this it?
Is it hard to change out the trigger springs? I ordered a Wolff Spring Kit that includes a lighter trigger spring and was wondering if I should take on the swap or farm it out to a smith.
I do have some mechanical experience but not a lot with guns....especially Ruger Mark IIIs.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I usually go with, when in doubt, take it to a Smith. At least then if something goes wrong they'll take care of it, LOL!
Here's a video that'll give you some insight. Maybe it'll help you decide if you wanna tackle it by yourself. Volquartsen Trigger Installation, Ruger 22/45 by Nutnfancy - YouTube |

The trigger will smooth out some, but don't expect it to lighten, appreciably, nor will use get rid of creep. Mark triggers tend to be all over the map as to what you get, one box to the next. That's why I try to buy all my Marks, locally and the first thing I check is the trigger. Some of my Marks, especially the vintage stuff, have excellent triggers and will never see a mod. The Mark IIIs I've owned and shot, though, all got the Volquartsen trigger kits and, while in there, got rid of the magazine safety.
How hard is it to put one of these kits in a Mark? I won't lie and say it's easy and painless ten minute job, but anyone with patience and average mechanical ability (me) can do it, but it helps if you've taken a Mark apart a few thousand times and are already familiar with its innards (again, me). One thing for sure, a VQ kit will turn any Mark into one sweet shooter. I'd recommend it. Plenty of info out there to help, should you decide to try it, too. See Mkiii: How to do all volquartsen upgrades, remove lci and magazine safety.

+1 on what she said. It takes time but I only remember having had trouble replacing the sear but finally got it. I remember saying a few bad words everytime I dropped it down in the grip trying to get it in place (could have been the spring - not sure).

Well, I tore into it yesterday and got the trigger down to perfect (for me) 4 LBS with a Wolff reduced power spring and a polish job on the hammer where the sear rides.
Also, cut the 'ear' off the magazine disconnect to get the mags to drop out freely and ground down the notch at the bottom of the magazine disconnect to be able to dry fire without a magazine inserted.
I had never had one of these Rugers apart before yesterday so, as many of you know, it was an adventure. Actually had to take it apart 3 times to make sure I got it dialed in so now I have the disassembly and assembly process down-pat.
The test firing today went well.
