22/45 lite

So it looks like I may be getting one soon. Who can give me some knowledge on this one. I am especially interested in accuracy, reliability, cleaning, changes or add on's, different grips etc. or if you are using it straight out of the box.

This most likely will be my replacement for my SR22 I sent back.

Thanks....pictures if you got 'em.

I'll start by saying that I don't own a 22/45 Lite. I do, however, own a 22/45 Mark III Hunter and it is a fine-shooting pistol. To give you an idea of changes and add-on's, I have the following:

• Hogue wrap-around finger groove grips
• UltraDot 30mm Red Dot Sight
• Volquartsen Mark II Trigger Kit w/ Mark II Hammer Bushing

A little insight into my choices:

My gun came with wood coco-bolo grips. They looked great, but were pretty thin and a little slick for my taste. I went with the Hogue grip and they fit really well and give a good purchase on the gun. I have long fingers, but my hands are pretty thin and these fit me well and are easy to hold for long periods of time.

I tried a couple of cheap red dots on my pistol before settling on the UltraDot. I've not wanted anything since, except for another UltraDot. It's a great dot for the money. It's a little bigger than I'd like it to be, but it balances well with the heavier pistol. Not sure how it would do on the Lite, but I bet it would be okay.

I went with the Mark II Volquartsen kit so that I could get rid of the magazine safety release. I found it annoying to have to reach up and pull the magazines out every time. Now they drop free. Also, I've got my trigger pull WAY down and it shoots like a dream.

As far as cleaning, disassembling, etc., just take your time and check out some YouTube videos. Once you've done it a few times, it's super-easy to do. Enjoy!

Are you getting rid of the SR22 completely? Or just getting the 22/45 Lite while the SR is back for repairs?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I am exchanging the SR22 for the Lite. I'm tired of waiting to have something to shoot. I got it in early July and to date Ruger has had it longer than me. They have been super nice throughout this whole ordeal and have tried to be accomodating. I just don't want to wait what could be weeks more for a gun to be made and tested (no definitive answer to when) so I thought I would exchange for something in stock. I'm hopefull it will be shipped out today and I will have it early next week. I really liked the SR22 and wanted it to be everything they said it would, but after having the same damage on 2 it just didn't make sense to keep trying. I looked hard at the two before I purchased and probably would have gone 2245 previously if it weeren't for the gold. I wish it were all black.

You're welcome for the info. Shoot me a PM if you need anything else or if you have questions about the 22/45 series. I can try and help out as much as possible.

Sorry to hear about your SR22 troubles. That sucks. I thought about picking one up early on, but read about all the funky problems with them and opted to stay away from it for the time being. I don't really need another .22LR pistol anyway, so I'm not at a loss by not having it.

Good luck with the swap. Hope you can get what you want.

As far as the all-black is concerned, you could get a target model 22/45 (lowest price option) and get a Tactical Solutions upper for it. They're pricey, but I just got a Tactical Solutions barrel for my 10/22 and it's amazing. I couldn't be happier at all. It's more expensive that way, but you could do it a bit at a time.

Just my 2 cents.

I own a 22/45 lite. I really like the gun but I sure can't hit anything with it. I shot it once and like I said couldn't hit anything. But on the other hand I have not shot a pistol much. So it could be just me. In shooting about 40 rounds through it, it also jammed at least 3 times and maybe 4. I was shooting CCI hollow points. Maybe that was part of the problem. When I get a chance I will take it out with different ammo and see how I do with it.

Thanks, I appreciate the input! Just got off the phone with Ruger. My pistol is set/slatted for testing on Monday, SO maybe I'll get it by weeks end!

helpful info yet again here. i just posted on another thread a few minutes ago about going to my favorite store and handling both the 22/45 lite and the sr22. really liked the feel of both. surprised me, actually, as i would have guessed that the sr22 would have been way too small for my hands, but it wasn't. juuuussst barely enough room for my pinky to be more or less comfortable on the end of the grip. sad to hear the less than ideal report on the sr22 as i really kinda like it, BUT man the 22/45 felt like a dream. i was deterred a little bit, though, by people saying what a bear they are to disassemble and clean.

Owning both the SR22P and the 22/45 LITE gives me an advantage when someone posts about the two of them compaired. The SR22P is not as accurate as the 22/45s. At least not in my hands, or with my example. The SR22P is 8" paper plate accurate at 25 yards, the 22/45s are 3x3" Post-It note accurate at 25 yards(and capable of even better rested). Thats why the Mark Series bull barrel guns are marked "Target"(Its actually because they have adjustable sights)

As far as the teardown/reassembly of the Mark Series pistols, Its kinda like changing your oil in your car. Most people can do it with ease, some cant. Was it a breeze the first time you changed the oil in your car? Probably not, but by the third time, you could do it with your eyes closed. Someone posted about how difficult reassembling a Mark pistol was, and everyone read that, and now suddenly, its a HUGE problem. Honestly... its a simple process, and once you reassemble your Mark pistol 2 or 3 times, you will be embarresed you ever posted that you were deterred by the thought of disassemble/ reassemble. Removal of the magazine disconnect parts in the Mark III series makes reassembly a snap, just as it is in the earlier Mark I and II versions. Im sure that guy still has trouble changing his own oil...

... and I didnt mean you, Arg0naut22...

Here's a pic of mine with Dan Wesson Valor VZ grips added, I like these grips better because they are slightly fatter than the stock grips and they seem to fit my hand better, they also seem a bit better than the rubber for grip-ability too.:

Wow! That's good looking. I just saw those grips and remarked how I thought they might look good. I guess I was right! Getting excited to "play" around and make it my own.

Thanks Everyone!

Worked with the Lite, as accurate off the bench as my steel version, no malfunctions.

Good luck, let us know what happens. The wife picked up the Lite not too long ago, and fell in love with the weight. First thing she said though was "WTF is it gold", and the second was "its so light, I would think it would jump around on target just from my heartbeat".
