Modified MarkIII 22/45

Here is my 10110 that had non removable panels. I had VZ's Elite Tactical Carry grips installed. These are thick so it really is a great fit my large hand. I also had an Ed Brown extended mag release installed, polished sear, slingshot and a pretravel screw installed in the originnal trigger..

I just purchased a 22/45 model # 10107 and would like to install those grips. Did you have someone install them for you? How did they attach them to the non removable panels?

I sent the lower to Doug Stout aka Kingshouse.

He charge $40. and I sent him the grips. I would recomend 1911 grips if you have a big hand. I purchased a 10143 Talo with removable grips. It is still a little thin, but the gun with the new grips feels like a true gun grip.
I read about him in the RimfireCentral.com forum. It usually takes 2 months but worth the wait. I also had him do the slingshot and polished the sear and put a pretravel screw in the stock trigger. In my Talo I did everything
myself and replaced the sear and trigger with ones from Volquartsen.

He has incorporated a "slingshot mod" into his 22/45, the spring assists the bolt stop to drop when the bolt is retracted. 22/45's have detent balls in the bolt release and must be manually depressed each time the bolt is closed. The slingshot mod makes the 22/45 model operate like a regular metal framed pistol, whereby the bolt release drops when the bolt is retracted (or slingshot operated). Most 22/45's do not need the spring because gravity can accomplish the same task, however some folks like the added spring to ensure the bolt is forced downwards when the bolt is moved.

I did the slinghot mod on my 10143 Talo myself. I had to grind the metal where it slides into the frame so it wouldn't hang up and stick sometimes.
On this gun that Doug modified, he added the spring. I was surprised at first but it works great every time in any position.

The metal framed Ruger 22 Auto pistols have a hidden spring too, all but the Mark I generation models. The spring and plunger are located inside the frame, along the left side of the trigger body. They provide the extra force for the metal frame's bolt stop to clear the bolt when retracted and close the breech.
