Wink Trying to buy a new Mark III Target Model

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and looking to buy my first new gun. I have done a ton of research and decided on the Mark III target with 5.5 blued barrel.

Trouble is, there are no new ones for sale locally. I don't want used as I plan to keep the gun a lifetime. Also, a local dealer has the Mark III Standard for $329, and I'm just wondering if this is as good as I might be able to do on price and availability. Truly, I need the adjustable sights.

Also, can a dealer order for me, and would I expect to pay list if so? $500 out the door for a fairly basic .22 pistol? I'd rather just go for the SR1911...

And Gunbroker...I've sold there it never bought on there. In checking completed auctions, the same sellers seem to consistently be selling this exact model. Is it even possible they have that many in stock or is this some sort of glitch or bait and switch (thanks for your winning bid but we don't have that in stOck-how about a Glock?).

Anyway, being more of a guitar guy, this is all pretty frustrating. This model seems extremely common, and it's tough that I can't just go to my LSG and walk out with a new gun of my choice at a fair price.

Thoughts, suggestions, advice? I'm half tempted to go get that new Maark III standard tomorrow, but I really will be happier with the Target model. Just hoping its not going to cost more than $400 or so out the door. This will be, after all, a toy for me.

As a rule, you won't pay top dollar to order a gun that is normally easy to find. Most of the LGS I deal with will order anything for me thats availible for 10% over cost plus any registration fees.

Get the target. It's pretty awesome.

Your LGS can order from wholesale/retail suppliers too. Ask them if they've done it before and how much the cost, out the door, would be for them to order it.

One of our LGSs has the blued, 5 1/2" Target model for $369 and he tends to be a bit higher than most. I agree with the others, just have one of your LGS order what you want. With our local Ruger dealer, if it is available from one of the distributors, he can have it in a week. Settling for less is usually a bad idea when buying a gun. You'll always wonder.

Thanks all - after a bit of deliberation I went and bought the Mark III Standard - AND a Ruger 10/22. I figured I could do a bit more target shooting with both!

I just want to go to the range and plink - I just found all of it so much of a hassle and expense. In the end, I could afford, but not justify a $450 .22 pistol. Some people have low prices in their area - not in mine. Everything around here is just a few notches off MSRP.

Now I've got an issue upon re-assembling the Mark III. Check my other thread if anyone cares to help out a newbie.
