SR 22 Question from a newbie

Just got this pistol. My first gun. Was target shooting with two other people using the same type of gun. Looking at the ramp where the bullet enters the barrel, there groove is straight into the barrel. My groove is off to the left. Their guns have no problems with jamming and putting them back together after cleaning. Mine on the other hand is constantly jamming. I have replaced one magazine and the other two are showing shiney spots on them. When reassembling the gun it takes 5 or 6 attempts to get the spring to go. On jamming it is actually bending the bullet. Is there a problem with this pistol? Please help! Was trying to add pictures but I can't figure out how from my computer.

I got my SR22 last week and have shot 600 rounds of CCI through it. Some were 32 grain HP's and the other were 40 grain mini mags. Fortunately I have not had one jam or mis-fire. What kind of ammo are you shooting? The HP's were hollow points and the mini mags were not, so it did not make a difference.

When reassembling after cleaning, I had issues mainly due to my limited hand strength. Today, before reassembling I inserted a magazine, cocked the hammer with the safety off and it went in like a breeze. Once it was in, I held down on the back and pressed the slide release and voila, all done.

Some pics would probably yield the best advice on your issue.

Post some and you'll get more answers.

Check the screw holding the barrel in place as there have been issues of the screw coming loose.

How many rounds does the gun have through it now? What ammo where you using? Where are the shiny spots on the mags?
I looked at my feed ramp and it appears to be ever so slightly more to the left than dead center.

Can't wait for pictures - does not sound like an ammo problem.

Do remove the slide and check the barrel - try to wiggle it - does it feel loose in any way? As said above, there have been some loose barrels.

Hi I have 2 SR22's I just checked both my feed ramps they are both dead center of the mag well. Check the barrel screw and see if it's tight. If it is loosen it and see if you can get the feed ramp centered in the mag well it may not be seated correctly. Yes pictures would be good. Also check your recoil sping the small end goes on the guide rod first.turn cw looking from breech end it should go over the first ridge only and up to the back edge of the rod not over the end a little help from a finger nail helps. These are great little guns will eat anything you feed them and for their size are accurate. Hope this helps if not contact Ruger CS they are great. Both mine have about 2500 rds thru each. I've actually run 600 rounds of Federal bulk thru one of them in a single session with only 5 fail to fire ammo problem. Good luck keep us posted as to how you make out.
Also welcome to the forum. Lot of great people here looking to help one another as you can see.

I can't help you with your SR22 but I've heard good things about them.

Good luck and welcome to the forum. You'll probably find some answers here.

Feed ramp on mySR22p is centered perfect and after 800 trouble free rounds there is no shinny spots anywhere. These little pistols are trouble free, yours has to have serious problems to be jamming like it does, it needs to be sent back for repair.

I think Tincan is referring to the alignment of the feed ramp vs breach of the barrel. This is all one machined piece of metal. My feed ramp is also dead center of the mag well.

RockDoctor is an unknown quantity at this point
Remove the slide and recoil spring. Insert a full magazine into the grip. With the slide removed look down to see if the feed ramp of the barrel and the center of the magazine and a live round line up. If the feed ramp and the top of the magazine/live round don't line up there is a problem. Loose barrel? If they line up, the barrel is tight, function should be ok.

Most of the area on the feed ramp on a SR22 is barely used.

The top round in the magazine almost has a straight shot into the chamber if the barrel is aligned and fixed in place properly.
