| Bad ammo?
My new Single Six came in the mail today! Went out to try it --- all excited--- and had most of a brick of American Eagle ammo nearby so I grabbed some of it and away I went. First cylinder full, 3 went bang and 3 didn't. My heart sank.
First thing I thought was faulty gun. I even cycled the misfires through again and they still didn't go. So----back home and rounded up every different brand of 22 ammo I could find along with my girlfriend's new Bearcat, then back to the range. The American Eagle stuff wouldn't work in the Bearcat either. Every other brand (to my relief) worked fine in the Single Six. It grouped really well with some Remington Yellow Jackets and Remington Cyclones.
Guess I'll see if I can find someone that wants some American Eagle and I'll stock up on some of those Remington's!
Anyone else have trouble with American Eagle?

I had an old brick of Ferderal Lightning (red box) that was a few years old and went bad....was getting FTF every 3 out of 10 rounds on average in my 10-22 so yes it does happen. And the way you described it it definitely sounds like the ammo.

Try CCI Mini Mag if you have them up there. Its always worked in any gun that was functional. More expensive, but if you throw out half of the cheap stuff, how do you save?

You can't fault the brand, just that particular box. You said it was "most of a brick" so apparently the first part of it shot okay in another gun? Maybe since then it got damp, or whatever.
American Eagle is Federal brand ammo, and I've always had good luck with Federal. Even the Value Packs of it that Wally World sells. Most of my .22 ammo stash is Federal, the rest is CCI.

Federal A/E is actually very high quality rimfire ammunition. This could simply be part of a bad lot that you got, it may have gotten wet or it could just be older ammunition. I personally like all of Federal's ammo. If it's their newer ammo it could be the South American manufacturered stuff like the "Champion" line that you can get really cheap.I do believe all of the American Eagle stuff is made in USA though. Check out the box to see where it was made (USA or Brasil), regardless, providing it never got wet in storage you might want to give Federal a call and send it back to them, ammunition companies like to make things right for their customers by replacing defective ammo with new ammo. I've had to do this with Hornady and CCI/Speer for defective ammunition, both of which sent me back more than double what I sent them (to cover shipping and inconvienience) when they noted the problems. You'll be doing their R&D dept a favor!

Agreed. AE/Federal makes a quality rimfire cartridge. Actually, of the mainstream rimfire ammo only Thunderbolt has ever given me consistent trouble, but I guess there is no need to turn this into another Thunderbolt bashing thread. That dead horse has been beaten enough.

I have a new box of Federal Champion in front of me, purchased at Wal Mart. On the bottom of the box: Quote:
Made in the USA/Fabrique Aux Etats-Unis
FEDERAL CARTRIDGE CO., ANOKA, MN 553-3 USA
| I shoot the Federal Champion/Value Pack Blue and Red box out of all my .22 rifles and pistols with no malfunctions.

I just checked the box and it's made in the USA. Never been wet. Some of the others that worked fine are older than the AE and have been stored in the same place. It's been a spell since I owned a 22 so probably the gun that fired the first box out of that brick was an Anshutz rifle that I sold 2 or 3 years ago. Beats me?
Sending that bit of ammo back to the manufacturer might not be worth the bother because I'm north of the US border.
