Thumbs up first time with 22/45 lite

After a long wait , i finally received my 22//45 lite. The first time I ever saw one,I wasnt sure what to think of the styling ,but it grew on me. This thing looks cool and different. I never had a chance to handle one before the purchase. They are tough to find right now. The descriptions, pictures , and price were enough for me. I was also surprised at the reaction of the old timer at the mom and pop gun shop it was shipped to. He was obviously was handling it before i arrived to pick it up. He aimed ,felt it and remarked about its weight. He also asked me how recent this model has been out. He said " your gonna have fun with this". As I was walking out he commented again. I was just surprised that a guy who sees guns come and go perked up this way.
So I'm at the range. I load the mag aim pull the trigger "click" nothing! It fails to chamber two more times. It turns out that the first round of federal ammo in the mag is a little deformed. Ironically,it was one of the rounds near the bottom of the box. This was the only bad round in the box so far. I m only a newbie here but I was able to shoot as accurately as with my MKlll Hunter with a 6.8" barrel at 25 yards. We sent about 200 plus rounds of federal ammo down the barrel with no more issues. I say we because it was a gift to my wife. I like to think that its mine too. I enjoyed shooting the lite and cant wait til tomorrow for another go. The only negatives that I noticed was that the mags don't come out as smooth as my Hunter model. Nether model is designed to drop out. The other negative is that you need to press the mag release switch to close the bolt and chamber the round. These issues are not a huge deal to me,considering how much I like this gun. I found out from a very helpful member of this site that there are inexpensive modifications for both issues and one of them (bolt switch issue) is free.

I think Ruger has hit a homerun with the LITE. Its built from a time tested formula with millions of guns sold. There shouldnt be any reliability issues. The lightweight construction makes it very carry-able. The threaded barrel is great for any muzzle accessory, and will certainly help to sell more units. Adjustable sights are a great touch. If you wanted a lightweight upper 22/45 pistol, the only way to accomplish this was with the PacLite upper, and a purchased 22/45. Now Ruger offers the whole pistol for the cost of the PacLite upper.

I went to the range today and gave the lite another workout along with my Hunter model. Once again, I shot better with the lite. I believe the lighter weight is the main factor here. Steady as she goes! I'm really having fun with this thing. Weblance, from a previous thread you said I was lucky to get one. All 5 online stores that had me on there notification list, no longer have them. Only one of them ever called me with only 1 left. Thanks again for bringing to my attention to the two modifications for this gun.

I really wanted a 22/45 lite as a woods/biking/kayak companion but they are not compliant in my state so I went with the SR22. I have not tried the sr yet but I hope to get a chance to shoot the lite someday in a free state.

Sbh87, I don't own an Sr22 but I read alot about them on this site. Everyone who has them always seems to say how fun they are to shoot. I hope to buy or try one out for myself. Enjoy!

I bought one a few months ago for $369. I've put almost 1000 rounds through it and it hasn't had any problems. I ordered 2 spare recoil and magazine springs from midwayusa and a Black Dog ambidextrous kydex holster from cheaperthandirt because it came with both height adjustment clips. It serves me well as a target practice and lightweight wilderness carry gun.

Great gun. I bought mine a month or so back. I quickly ordered some replacement parts...Volquartsen sear & trigger. NOW it shoots REALLY good.

I also like the light weight and of course the threaded barrel. I just got my "gun trust" paperwork back from the lawyer and will be ordering a suppressor this week. A Sparrow. Plan to also use the Sparrow on my 10/22 (once the barrel is threaded). I figure I have 4-6 months to get that barrel threaded since it takes that long for the Feds to get the paperwork back to me.

I think Ruger is going to kick butt with this Lite. It's the answer to folks wishing to have a light-weight platform, ready to use with a suppressor.

Brig,
You shouldn't have to push the mag release button to close the bolt. If you do, your pistol's defective.

I like mine. However it is much better after repacing the sear, trigger, hammer and removing the mag safety.

I'm not planning on doing this, but I thought you might want to know there's a remedy for the bolt release. Here's the youtube video I saw it in.

Brig,
That helps.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out how your pistol could possibly have to use the mag release to chamber a round.

What's the problem with having to use the bolt release?
Denis

Yes ,thanks for the video. I have heard about the modification. It's not likely that I will do it either.

Nothing wrong with it now. I just had to get used to it. I became used to my Hunter model, where I just pulled back the bolt and let it go. I'm comfortable with both now. Thats why Its not likely I will modify it.

I wish they had the Lite a couple of years ago. I bought the 22-45 pistol then bought a pac lite which cost more the the pistol.
