Grandpa's gift to Grandson

My Father in Law recently gave a Ruger Single Six to my son, among some other great rifles and a shotgun. My son is really into shooting and we go at least once a week. A special gift to last a lifetime for sure.

While searching for the history: the serial number listed on the Ruger website says its in this group: 409921 serial range= 1965 "Single-Six Magnum Model Revolver" but the frame is stamped "Ruger .22 CAL (and) "Single Six" below it. On the face of the cylinder the last 3 numbers of the serial number are etched....Its a 6 1/2 inch barrel, blued, with walnut grips. I thought it odd that the serial number is in the "magnum only" group while the frame says .22 CAL. Unless it was a convertible and one of the cylinders is missing???

I am going to do some more research after my son cleans it up a bit and will call customer service for a little history. I just think it is a great gun to give a kid. He has plenty of guns to choose from in this house but nothing compares to a firearm with family history.

Thanks Grandpa

A very nice thought.
There will not be any firearms passed down to me, but there will be many passed down by me.

I was given my Grandpa's - J.C. Higgin's single shot rifle for graduation in 1984. Grandpa passed in 1978. This gun is in pictures hanging above my baby bed in 1965. To say this is the most "valuable" gun in my collection (80+) would be an understatement. As gmsoapy said grandparents are special!

I have my Grandfathers old Swedish Mauser sporter.I would not trade the old Swede for anything.I had his Remington Model 11 shotgun but it is now one of my Son's prized possessions.I have a few guns that my older Grandsons have their eyes on and all of my guns will someday end up theirs.I have 8 Grandsons and one Granddaughter.I may need a few more guns so they have lots of choices when I am gone.I also have a few of my Fathers guns and they will be handed down as well.Nothing like some family history.I shoot or hunt with all my guns and each will have a story to pass with them.

Ruger is a great place to start. My fathers single six convertible (1967) was passed down and both I and my kids have shot it. It has never been upgraded and never will, and at the range they all love it! Shoot it and enjoy!
