Ruger 22/45 bolt spring

Hi
I have my favorte Ruger 22/45 in sickbay. The bolt spring that sits on top of the bolt has one of the forked yolk prongs broken off. I had shot maybe 400 rounds through tha fine pistol.

I went to clean afeter the last range trip and found the above problem. the broken piece was still in the action.

I have done nothing to the gun itself, but install the Volquartsen trigger kit, so I dont feel that has anything to do.

What caused this and how can I prevent that once i Put in the new one??

Thanks for your help
Jeff

Some times little pieces just break. Thats very early for any normal "wear and tear" failure, so I'd expect that there might have been a hidden manufatoring crack in that "yoke".

Ruger's pretty fast shipping parts and I'd be pretty certain that they'll ship it under warrenty. They will need your serial number and purchase date. It took 6 days to get the part I needed.

The same thing happened to me after the first take down. I broke the entire tab off the back of the spring trying to get the mainspring housing out. I called Ruger and I had one in about three days! I went ahead and ordered another one from Brownels just to have a spare and see if there was any difference, there wasn't
