I showed them to a friend with one of the early new frame guns he bought new in '72 or '73, but he didn't want them because he's keeping it original for a grandson. The guy still has the box and sales receipt, or he did about 4 or 5 years ago.
I've got the Mark I Target SN 17-6xxxx(1981 or 1982 build) with the Mk II grip screw pattern. I am looking for grips as mine went missing and my target grips warped. I prefer LH but any port in a storm. Anybody have a set for sale?

Hello everyone, i'm kinda new to this forum, but thought i might try to find out about a find i put money down on the other day. I was in the gun store and this older gentleman was trading in an old MKI target for a new 22/45. I asked him if i could look at it while he did his paper work and he said yes. I couldn't beliave i got this lucky!! Serial number 11-844xxin very good shape, markI stamped on it. I was doin the paperwork on it before the previous owner was even out of the shop. 250 + tax. not sure if i over paid, but I've been looking for one of these for years. I believe this is a 73 model if i read the ruger site right. I'm looking for a set of finger groove grips for it, but I'm not sure if anybody is making any to fit it anymore.

Engineers are funny that way. They're always changing things and most of the time it is for the better.

I believe the post '71 pistols are compatible with Mark II grips as well. I will verify this over the weekend and report here.
Looks like the change actually took place sometime during 1972 production, with the key word being "sometime". Not all 1972 models had the A100 frame. Here's my 1972, RST4, serial # 11-38xxx with the A54 grip. Happen to have the original box and instruction/parts manual and Ruger had yet to include the written note between ordering parts for the A54 versus A100 grip frames, a note which I have seen in a later, 1974 instruction manual.

Otherwise excellent post and information. Thank-you. Just thought I would advise others who have a '72 model not to assume they have the A100 grip frame.

By the way, the walnut grips you see are Ruger factory original that could be ordered, at that time, for $3, according to the manual.

Hi all, Just so happens I make grips for the rst4, 6, & mark 1' s. The original ruger pistols take the A-54 grip frame and the "post" mark II's take the A100 grip frame. The problem with putting MkII grips on the A100 frame is the A100 is still set up like the A-54 frame. were the hammer pivot pin is flush on both sides. Putting a mkII grip on it has the slot cut out for the bolt stop thumb piece so the hammer pivot pin will drift. Yes. a mkIII grip will fit an MKII but the MKII will have to be modified to fit a MKIII for the new mag latch. If any one is interested in MKI grips, Email at snoopyt1@gmail.com. Also, see Etsy.com for pics.
