I'm ready to make my first firea rm purchas. I chose the mark 3 hunter with the fluted barrel. Now, since the wife has shown some interest im thinking of going for two guns. The problem is that I'm only budgeted for $600 give or take. The question is which two mark 3's pistols can I purchase within this budget. The only model I'm not interested in is the standard. I'm open to used and may change my mind about not wanting the standard model.

You could get 2 22/45s or 1 22/45 and the SR22 for about 700
My Mark III hunter was 520, but it was well worth it.
Maybe you could find some used? But 600 is a tight sqeeze for 2 handguns.

I got my SR22p for $309.00 plus tax and it is a great little pistol, it is really accurate and runs flawlessly on most any ammo.

If it were me I'd do an lcr 22lr (can be had for under 400) and a 22/45 (preferably one with replaceable grip panels). Two very different types of guns, lots of training there. Both fun.
Although sharing a Ruger hunter isn't the worst thing that could happen... We shared a buckmark for a while and it was perfectly fine.

Thank you, I'm considering your suggestions of a Sr22+ a 22/45. I ( think) it will be less $$ than 2 - 22/45's. She may also like it better since its lighter. She thinks I'm going to buy only one to start out this new hobby. Imagine the surprise when she finds out she is a gun owner over night. Any other suggestions are welcome.

There's nothing wrong with the standard model. It's a good reliable piece. The one I have is a model that was made in 1952 and still works flawlessly.

The standard is still an option I'm going back and forth in my mind which one to get her. The Sr 22 or a standard. If the money works out maybe 2 _ 22/45' s. She has never pulled a trigger.

I have more than a few firearms, but someday I will buy a "Plain Jane" standard, either a MKI, MKII, or even a MKIII.
And by that , I mean...I think you would be happy with a couple of "Plain Jane" Marks.

I will say that I have not used or know much about the site i'm about to post, other than they seem to have some damn good deals. These people could supply you with 2 SR22's for under 600. Semi Auto Handguns @ sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com |

If you're on a budget why not get just one and share until you know how both of you will like this new activity? Then you can have two "Christmas morning" unboxing experiences instead of just one.
Are you sure you want to start with a pistol? There are some great 22LR autoloading rifles available that IMHO would be a better choice for a beginner. They're quieter, have even less recoil, and are easier to hit stuff with than pistols, so the chances of your wife enjoying shooting will be higher. Pistols can be frustrating for wives who haven't shot before. We have a S&W M&P 15-22 and an SR22P. My wife loves shooting both, but she has a lot more success with the rifle.
Of course you would have to have a place to shoot that allows rifles. Just my two cents.

Yes, i thought about a rifle but I'm sure we are up to the challenge. One of the hand full of reasons I'm going for a mark3 is the challenge of breaking it down and back together. I've watched it on u tube and can't wait to see what the fuss is about. I think of it like working on my classic car and the satisfaction of completing something. Of course , another reason for the choice is that its made in USA. Sharing was my first thought until she showed a strong interest. I'm sure we will eventuality get in to a rifle. I'm going to keep checking prices and look at the models until I find the right combo of gun and price. Thank you and to to the person who posted the link.

What have you shot? What has your wife shot? What was both of your impressions? Is the purpose of this gun(s)purely recreational?Do you plan on this being a stepping stone to other firearms? And if so what will their purpose be?
Give us a little more info and we may be able to help further.
Congratulations on deciding to enter the wonderful world of firearm ownership.

I've only been to the range a few times over a number of years but that was enough to hook me. I havent acted until now because I was not in a gun friendly state. I ve only shot a 45, a 38 revolver one of the mark Rugers and a few rifles my friend owned . I think he called it a 30 yard 6. It was pretty powerful. My intention is recreational. Though I know a 22 is not ideal for home protection, its better to have 2- 22' s in 2 locations in the house than none. I'm sure I will eventually step into a different firearm eventually. Probably an antique for collection purpose. I like anything old , cars, guns amtiques of all kinds.
