Too expensive for casual plinking though.

I have a SR22P, I have not had any problems,
But, From what I have read on many Sites in regards to the SR22P Problems.
If you are having Problems with FTL, Use Round Nose bullets, NOT Hollow Point.
The bullet shape has a lot to do with it. Also fully Manually rack the slide back all the way, DO NOT use the slide release to rack the slide.
The following Bullets are suppose to be good.
Blazers
CCI
Aguila SSS
Wolf Match Grade

A few days ago was my First time to the range with my SR22P I took a brick of Remington gold bulk
They shot Flawlessly.
Did a through cleaning after shooting about 300 rounds of the Remington through SR22P pistol.
Ok went to the range Yesterday, Took my
1. SR22P
2. MarkII 1986'
3. 10/22
4. M&P9C
5. Sub2000 9mm
Started off shooting the SR22P, especially since it did So well the first time out.
I shot Federal 36g copper HP, with this ammo i had a LOT of failures.
FTF, FTL,
I cleaned the Feed ramp a Couple times (It was VERY DIRTY) at the range but did not lube the SR22P at the range, maybe i should have.
I also took a brick of Blazers 40g RN, These shot Flawlessly not one failure in the SR22P.
I shot the rest of the federal in the MarkII & 10/22, mark II & 10/22 ate em no problem.
The Blazer ammo has a waxie coating that gets all over the internals on the guns that I did not like, really makes the guns VERY DIRTY FAST
I had this Ammo so I thought i would try some different ammo through the SR22P, as I noted in a previous post that people noticed that the SR22P in fact with my own experience the Round Nosed ammo was Flawless, BUT the Hollow Point Ammo had MANY FAILURES in the SR22P.
I am sticking to RN (Round Nose) ammo in my SR22P

My mom just shot her SR22 for the first time yesterday and kept getting fail to feed problems but when I shot it no problems at all. When she shot mine she had no issues at all. I'm guessing she was limp wristing and hers just needs to be broken in a bit. By the end of our range session she was having less and less failures.

For those that like round nose Winchester just came out with a new load ( hard to find ) M22 black plated round nose. I little more then most bulk $47.00 a 1000 at Walmart. Works real well in my kimber pro carry with the 22cal coversion kit which usally only likes CCI mimi mags. Looks like Blazers with no wax. But mine will run Federal bulk all day long with no problems

Looks like Blazers which not wax. | Yep the M22 is my favorite plinker ammo now. Feeds perfectly with anyone's .22 pistol since the muzzle energy is rated slightly higher than most other ammo (140 ft-lbs). This spec is what determines how strong the slide gets blown back to cycle.
The waxy Blazer 40gn has decent muzzle energy (135 ft-lbs) and reliability as the M22 but gets everything dirtier quicker. Simple solution is to shoot Blazers first, then shoot clean ammo afterwards. Any wax buildups get blown out easily.

I am sticking to RN (Round Nose) ammo in my SR22P | I do not agree with you on the SR22p. The last 2 range sessions I have shot 500 rounds without 1 failure. The Federal bulk has worked great for me & several other people on this forum have reported the same. Load a mag with the slide locked open & look at the relation of the round & ramp. The round hardly touches the ramp. You need to use what works for you, but you may have another problem. Good luck!!!

i am looking to buy a ruger sr22,but kind of scares me about the take down lever problems i've been hearing about. i called ruger they told me only a few went bad and not to worry about it,it's a great gun ! what do you all think about the ruger sr22 is it a good buy or a no go ? i also have a ruger P95 15rd. i was the top qualifier in the police academy with it back in 1997 with no FTF or FTE since there has been at least 20k rounds through it with no problems.(btw never fired a hand gun before the academy). ruger is a great gun maker and thats why i was wondering if the sr22 is going to be ok. if not was thinking of going with the beretta neos u22,have heard no bad reviews on this gun. but i really like the ruger sr22. so if anyone could add some insight on this gun would be helpful, thank you.

Hi officer1969
Welcome to the forum first off. Second I have two SR22's with about 2500 rounds thru each and have had no problems at all. they're great little guns IMO. I bought the first one for wife and liked it so much I bought one for myself. Mine eat anything I feed them mostly Federal bulk Walmart. P series are great guns I got one of the last P89's If you had no ammo you could use it as a hammer
Again welcome hang around. lot of great people here.

My SR22 was bought in June (May build date), and the take down lever broke 900 rds later (slide, spring & recoil rod flying down range). I have a P22 that's over 6000 rds without a single failure and it was suppose to be the worst of the worst in 22's.
Ruger replaced the takedown lever in less than a week (no cost to me). I traded the SR22 same day it came back for a 22/45 MKIII.
'Supposedly' Ruger had a 'bad run' of plastic for the take down levers, but I continue to see posts reporting the failures of guns bought in August.
Personally, I would NEVER recommend an SR22.

thank you for the info and thank you for welcoming me. i'm just wondering if the bad sr22's are coming from philly or pheonix or if it's a hit or miss type of thing ? i looked at alot of .22's found good reviews on the beretta neos u22 and the ati 1911. like glock (which are junk) used them on duty i know all about them. i've heard both good and bad reviews about the sr22. i like the sr22 design as the same with the P22 also i have heard bad about the P22. ruger reps. are coming to our local gun shop sept. 14,15,16 maybe it would be a good idea to confront one of them face to face about the take down lever. to me it dosen't look like the take down lever is made very well. i also noticed the problems all seem to happen with the hotter ammo but kind of makes sence plastic melts with heat. kind of a dumb idea from ruger to make the take down lever out of plastic. i've always been a ruger fan but, i'm still not really sure about the sr22. once you got your gun back from being fixed did ruger put a better take down lever in or same quality ? thank you all for your feed back much appreciated.

Mine came back with what looks to me like the exact same part as what broke.
As for ammo, I only shot CCI mini-mag 40 gr CPRN, Blazer 40gr LRN, and the Winchester M22. All in or around the 1250 fps velocity.

We're buying a second SR22. : ) The "problems" we had with my wife's gun weren't anything abnormal.

thank you MCPO for the info. sounds to me like the sr22 is a hit or miss as with the P22 i like the designs of the guns and accessories with the sr22 but, not sure i like the safety issues. might get the ATI GSG .22 1911, i like the beretta neos U22 but, my gun shop don't sell the one with the short barrell. i just watched a resent you tube video that showed the sr22 blowing up in there hand, can't risk my daughter firing that and having that happen. thank you all again for your help and insight.

I saw the same video of the gun blowing up in this guys hand
I sent almost the same e-mail directly to Ruger,
Rugers reply was the SR22P does Not, and has not blown up or exploded, the take down being damaged while shooting only allows the slide to move forward and fall to the ground, and that this is a very isolated incident that rarely occurs.
