.22 Magnum Cylinder

Got a .22 mag cylinder from a friend for my new model Single Six. Cost 20.00. Well the Gun Grimlems smiled on me. It fits. Timeing and alignment is on perfectly. Locks up. Checked the bore all the way into cylinder. So it was time to test fire. 12 rounds dead on target from 30 feet. Guess I got lucky and off real cheap. Rechecked everything again with both gun and cylinder. All a ok. Now for a .22 mag lever gun. MOMMA GONNA BE MAD.

Thinking about the Henry Golden Boy in .22 mag. I like the straight stock saddle style levers. But my 3 year old will make the final choice. It will be hers someday. Besides she has great taste on guns. We go pick out two. Then she picks out the final choice. Daddy Daughter Thing. The guys at the LGS love it. I get one of the ones I want. She thinks she picked it out.

Great deal on the 22 magnum cylinder. Since all the new Single Sixes come with both cylinders, did you pick yours up used?

I really like shooting 22 magnums through the Single Six. Great fun!

Hey, good deal Pitbull, glad it fits!

Good friend too!

I'm scared to try that with a used .22 LR cylinder for fear of a mistit.

So you guys really like the .22 mag.?

I got 50 rounds of those, and I have yet to shoot the gun with them in it.

I will, but my cheapskate thinking goes something like this...

.22 mag...roughly $10 at Walmart for 50 rounds.

.22 LR...$20 at Walmart for 550 Remington Golden Bullets.

I don't hunt at this time, so tin cans fall with either round.

Guess I'll have to save my judgement until I try them.

Cool SA & holster kiwihunter.

I had a Single Six that cam as a 22 magnum only. I had a new cylinder fitted when they converted it to a transfer bar system. Just had it out last night shooting it. Gotta bump the fixed rear sight a bit, but otherwise it shoots like it did near 40 years ago.
Love the magnums too. They are AWSOME on starlings!

Pitbull1022, good choice with the rifle - i have thought about a henry, but i think i would like a winchester 9422 better for a lever .22 mag

Yeah redleg. I picked it up used about 4 years ago for a couple bucks. Sat unused in a guys closet since 1978. Paper box, wraped in brown wax paper. Antlerfan. I will check out the 9422 also. Shooting the mags are a blast.

Bestboss, I'm curious to know if you've tried to put put the original hammer & trigger back in place after getting the .22LR cylinder fitted.

The reason I'm asking, is that I've heard that original OM .22 LR cylinders had a firing pin relief cut on their face, and because the firing pin would no longer protrude forward when the hammer is down on a transfer bar system, does Ruger still make the cylinders like original OM style, or now more like NM ones?

Just trying to avoid any potenial problems if I decide to put the original parts back in.

Pitbull, you did get lucky! My only suggestion to you about the rifle would be to go with a Winchester, i got a Henry as a gift and love it but the fit and finish is not the same as a Browning or Winchester and i had some problems with the mag tube after a couple years.

I'm another lover of 22 mags. Have a old RG that I shot for many years, till trigger got too touchy! Have 3 rifles, Marlin 1894M, Win 9422M, and Taurus 72, which is a knock-off of a Win. 62 pump. Marlins have problems, but feel more solid. Taurus is FUN. Looks & feels JUST like the old Win 62. The 9422M has a very smooth action, and I'm not a Win. lever fan! At this moment my brother has the Taurus and it is setting NEXT TO dad's Win. 62, nice pair!

My NEXT gun will be a single six, just need to figure out if I want a 5.5 or 6.5 in.!
