Would pulling the slide back, pushing the slide stop lever down, and then releasing the slide help? Or is this not what is causing the wear. I try not to release the slide with the slide stop lever without pulling the slide back first. Your thoughts?

That is not what is causing the wear. It's happening during firing, not on just lock back.
FWIW, I always pull the slide back, push the lever down, then release the slide and the wearing happened to mine anyway.

No problems with mine. Over 2000 rounds through it since the beginning of May. I started out shooting CCI, but have shot over 1500 rounds of cheap Federal from Walmart. About $19 for a box of 550.
The only issue I had was my fault.....I put the return spring on the guide rod backwards....which seems to be a common mistake. It was a pain in the butt to get the rod and spring out, but I found the answer on here and won't make the same mistake again.

I purchased my second one yesterday. Haven't fired it yet. The first one is doing well, haven't noticed anything excessive though it does show some wear that I consider normal looking for now.
Sweet gun, fun, accurate, wife and kids love it, I like it better than the Mosquito. I've never fired a Walther P22. The SR22 won out over the P22 due to the reviews and the in my hand impression of quality and build for both. I was really pulling for the P22 at the time because I could have gotten a deal on a pair of them. But I wanted to choose the "right" gun and waited to see the SR22, glad I waited.

I received the Crimson Trace CMR201 a couple of days ago and now mine is a real shooter. Nothing like a laser to help old eyes.

We've taken the SR22p out to the range now twice and shot 600 to 700 rounds through it so far with not one problem, it's a fun gun to shoot, I bought my wife a S&W M&P 9mm and the SR22p because of the reviews and the way she liked the way they felt in her small hands. I did a little test and set her up with both the M&P 9mm and the SR22P on the bench and watched to see what gun she fired the most, SR22p won hands down and she loved her M&P 9mm. I'm next going to set her up with her Mark II that was her favorite .22 along with the SR22p and to see what gun gets fired the most, will let you all know how it turns out.

We'll see what happens when more people get into the multi thousand round range on their guns if there are more reports of the takedown levers breaking.
Personally I'll stay away from shooting the hyper velocity rounds like Stingers and Yellow Jackets in mine just in case.
I also wanted to mention the breech face of the barrel on mine looked like it was cut with a rusty hack saw. Real heavy tool marks. Took me a while to polish it up. Didn't effect the function of the gun, it just bugged me. Poor QC in my opinion.

I was going to start a new thread about my SR22, but I'll just post it here since its on topic.
I have shot 800 rounds thru mine and had ONE FTF. I have had no other problems up until today. I was firing the pistol when the slide just came off. The take down lever was down and had a piece broken off.
I am not suprised that this happened because I have read other threads with people having the same problem.
I really like this gun but I am not sure if I will keep it because its my opinion that the take down lever has a design flaw.
Going to call Ruger tomorrow and ship her off to get fixed. Sucks...

I have over 600 rounds through mine. I have used mini-mags, federal bulk high velocity, blazers, and remington golden bullets and have had zero failures to feed or eject. In the first 200 rounds or so it didn't always go to battery with the slide release. Now it works fine. Absolutely love this gun.

I have around 2500 rounds through mine since I bought it in the beginning of May. No problems. At first I was shooting CCI, including a few hundred Stingers. Now I shoot bulk Federal from Wallyworld. No problems whatsoever.

Just got my SR22 back. 7 day turn around. Problem is that they replaced the slide, but the slide does not have the rear site on it. The other problem is that the take down lever has less resistance (pulling lever down) than the orginal lever had. I foresee the lever breaking again and advise others who are thinking about buying this gun to reconsider.
Not happy.

I'm over 2000a in my sr22 now. It's one of 8 22 autos I own and it is without question my current favs. It has had ONE fail to fire, that may have been cheap ammo more than gun since it has not repeated the problem. That particular ammo batch (old rem gold bullet) gave me greif in every gun it was shot in.
No sign of slide scraping or any of the other issues than have been seen by some.
We like it so much that its now our official camper security gun. All can handle it, accuratly, quickly and with no issues. Dependable.

No I don't think there is anything wrong with the SR22. Had the opportunity to try one out and It was pleasant. I don't see anything causing me to choose it over a Mark III though (keep in mind, my priorities and preferences). I think it will be very popular though. Very reliable, pretty accurate, and soars above any direct competition I've encountered.
The SR 22 is incredibly reliable in my very limited experience. It won't replace my Mark III though, and don't think it is intended to.
