Ruger MKII Reassembly Problem

When putting in the housing latch I noticed it was not going all the up. So I took it out and went to make sure the bolt was in properly and now I can't seem to get the bolt removed. It comes out about 1/4 of an inch and that's about it.

Any suggestions?

I have enough problems putting my own one together. This has got to be the worst designs for putting back together. Love shooting it though.

What always works for me is paying close attention to the manual and follow it exactly. Do it several times in a row to perfect it.

Patience will get you through. I was bloody and defeated the first time I took mine apart but the youtube videos made it a snap. I was told by the salesman that it was as easy to break down as my sr9c, BIG FAT LIE. Good luck, you will figure it out.

I always separate the barrel and frame with the bolt in place. Of course, the hammer has to be back.

The thing is, my barrel doesn't come out. As far as I can tell from the manual, the bolt will come out and then I use a boresnake or a long rod to clean the barrel.

Not enough information in the original post to say much.

1. Be sure that there is no magazine inserted.

2. Be sure that the hammer is down before trying to remove the mainspring housing assembly ("MHA"). Note that for the Mark III you must insert an EMPTY magazine and pull the trigger, i.e. "dry fire" the pistol. For the Mark I/II you can do this without inserting a magazine.

3. Once the above is done, with magazine not inserted, swing the MHA out and pull it out. On new guns you sometimes need to pound it out with a rubber mallet and wooden dowel. This is actually recommended in the manual for the Mark III. After a dozen or fewer reassemblies this will no longer be necessary.

Hope this helped.

I eventually got rid of my ruger 22 it was not worth the trouble to take apart and reassemble. Yes I read how to do it and wa shown and yeas I tried under supervison and had some one physically hold my hands and move them as they helped me assemble the gun twice and when they let go and I tried myself I could not do it. I am admittadly a clutz mechanically. When I owned a 1911 pattern pistol I also never took the firing pin out of its channel. I screwed up 2 guns and lost 3 firing pins to know when the firing pin sring needed to be replaced or leaned I had a gunsmith do it. Call me a wuss if you will but I do not need to screw up any more firearms.
