| Mark III V Beretta U22 Neos
In Illinois you can't buy 'til you get a firearms owners I.D. card. It takes a month. While waiting for mine (about mid January) I have been reading everything I can re the Mark III. At the same time I have been reading about the Beretta U22 Neos. It is as ugly as sin! BUT it seems every bit as good a plinker and target gun as the Marks.
I feel myself drifting away from all the disassembly/assembly grief attached to the Marks. Your thoughts re my purchase would be helpful. Thanks!

I just searched "Neos" and found I'm not the only one with these questions. I guess it is going to be a close call based on what feels good and $300 swing.

Ive used both and by far prefer the mkIII over the neos. Ruger feels much more balanced than the neos. The neos tended to to have repeat FTE's using several different brands of ammo. I havent stripped a neos but after several teardowns of my MKIII 22/45 it became a breeze. Its only the first few times that things seem too tight. Plus, at least in my opinion, a design thats been around as long as the mk series proves its quality. My .02 cents anyway. Hope this helps

Check out the Beretta Forum about the NEOS. You can read and search without being a member. I'm happy with my stainless Mark III Target.

I had this very same issue. I wanted a couple Neos and was ultimately advised to go with the MKIII because Ruger is awesome...thats all. haha No but really, you get what you pay for, Ruger is hands down an awesome gun and if you have only a few bucks to drop then get the Neos. But if you want quality that will last go with Ruger...or something.

I did not like the Neos compared to the Rugers and ended up buying a Ruger. However, in my search I also really liked the Browning Buck Marks.

Ruger MKIII or Beretta Neos, it doesn't matter both are fine pistols. It all comes down to personal preference. Which one looks better, feels better to you.
Don't let the MKIII field strip & reassembly put you off. Yes, the first time you do it it can be frustrating. Even the 2nd & 3rd time can be frustrating. Everything is new, the coating makes everything tight, & you will need a non-marring hammer & the appropriate diameter wood dowel to get it done (at least I did).
Follow each and every step in the manual. Once you get the hang of it, you'll field strip & reassemble the MKIII in no time. It gets even easier once the lower, upper, & bolt stop pin wear in.
Once you pass the MK series field strip / reassembly rite of passage, you'll be one of the club. |

I tried one out at my range the other day. It shot well, was comfortable and neither the owner nor me experienced any FTE or FTF's. The owner liked it a lot. Not a bad gun.

I was warned it could be a problem. Gander in the Joliet area said months. Midwest Guns in Lyons said weeks. I hope he is right.

I have a NEOS because my wife liked the way it fit her hand. Big mistake in my opinion. I would have much preferred the quality of the Ruger. The NEOS is OK, I guess for a fun gun plinker, but I just don't like it. The trigger was really rough and I had a 'smith try to improve it. He got it somewhat better, at least to the point I will shoot it once in a while. There is no real comparison here!

I went shopping today. I was looking for the Mark III Distributor Exclusive from Talo Cat# KMKIII52H Mod# 10125. It is shown on the Ruger web site. If Bass Pro had it it would sell for $500. Well, they don't and they can't find it neither can Gander Mountain nor JR in Aurora, IL.
The $500 includes a 10% discount on all you purchase on the day you get a BassPro credit card. More later.

Can't believe something that ugly could come out of the Beretta stable.
As for the disassembly/assembly grief of the Mark, if you can follow instructions..... no problem. If I could do it..... anyone could.
Don't move away from the Mark III for that reason only, you will be missing out on a great little shooter.

I have a Neos I bought about 6 months ago. Have a round count of 680 with only 1 failure. That was a hollowpoint that got hung up in feeding. Fired a lot of CCI Mini Mag and Velocitors, Win X High Speed and Hyper Speed and American Eagle . All 40 grain. Seems to eat everything pretty accurate too, for my tired old eyes. Can't be beat at the price of $311.00.
