Why Sam's bushing in the Mark III?

I am in NO WAY affiliated with Sam and have never met the man other than through e-mails about the bushing he sells for Ruger Mark III and Mark III 22/45 pistols. If you are fed up with how that factory provided magazine disconnect and its accompanying parts affect the way your magazines don't always "click into place" properly, are sometimes difficult to remove and you have trouble with the "mag in/mag out" two step waltz that's required for disassembly and then reassembly, you may want to consider this bushing.

While some folks don't mind all this messing around with magazines, some would rather have magazines that fit better and vacate the premises quicker than a long-tailed tom-cat in a room full of rocking chairs. As you can see by the above pictures, Sams bushing fills the now-vacant space where the mag disco parts once resided much better than alternative bushings meant to be used with the Mark II guns. :D

The bushing Sam sells runs $10.00 each, shipped to your door. Sam is in Canada so it will take a week or so to get one. Here is his e-mail for mailing info.............sg552.2@gmail.com.

I'm another happy customer! Got mine today, excellent as expected. Put it in the freezer for a couple hours and it went in first try. Excellent customer service, responded promptly to emails and gave me very helpful advice. Shipped it and notified me as soon as he received my payment, no B.S. like some other merchants on here. Very quick, very high quality, very pleased customer!

Decided to go with this bushing after seeing very good reviews and merchant feedback on many different forums.

Is that the hammer? would a MK II's whatever it is and its bushing work as a replacement?
 Don't exactly know what you are referring to. The pic below is of three Ruger hammers and how the various bushings fit those hammers. Can you define what you mean by a "Mark II's whatever?", do you mean will the Mark II hammer fit into a Mark III? The picture in the middle shows how a Mark II style hammer bushing fits in a Mark III hammer and the pic on the right depicts how the bushing as sold by Sam fits.

I am in Canada so my bushings came a bit quicker:) I have 2 installed in my MkIII comp and target. Also have Volq hammers and the bushings actually slide in very nicely. Sams bushings are the way to go for sure.

Does the bushing going through the hammer? Yes. All Mark hammer bushings go through the hammer.

Yes, the picture on the left is a Mark II hammer with the, as provided by the factory, bushing.

Will a Mark II hammer and bushing work in the Mark III pistol and replace the factory provided hammer/bushing and mag disco parts? YES.

Can you buy a Mark II or III hammer from Ruger? NO, you'd need to get one such as the Volquartsen hammer.

Why buy another hammer when you have one in the pistol that only needs an easy modification?

I was just wandering. Some people want to just replace their hammer and sear together. There are some theories about lighter hammers. I don't have a MK III so I don't care either way. Just looking at the pic made me think that you could do it. The fans of light weight hammers would like to know. So I asked. I am sure that the bushing is great. thanks.

I have done some experimenting with "lighter weight" hammers a while back. There was a guy on another forum who kept writing that the Volquartsen after market hammers caused "light hits" because of a lightening hole bored into the hammer to reduce weight. At one short space in time the VQ hammer had some problems that VQ quickly cured and they no longer happen, but this guy kept writing about those issues 2 years AFTER they were fixed. A Ruger factory Mark II hammer (with its strut) weighs on average 246.0 grains. Mark III hammers weigh around 229.0 grains with the strut attached. Volquartsen hammers (with the bored lightening hole) and attached hammer strut weigh around 182.0 grains. The one that I "butchered" up to make much lighter weighs in at 164.6 grains and during my testing of this hammer in a Ruger Mark II, NO light hammer strikes were experienced.

Hi all, I am new to the Mark III and I want to change out the bushing and the mag safety and have a few questions.

So if I order this bushing from Sam, it doesn't matter to specify about color like replacing the LCI for example right? Also if I order two (the other is in preparation of getting another Mark III hahah) then it's paypal to get him the money or something?

Thanks!

Can you post a link to a bigger version of that picture, I can't see what the heck is going on there.

How hard is it to switch out? Do you have to pull the hammer out completely or?

Oh, and how does this relate to the LCI (Loaded Chamber Indicator) setup, do I still eliminate that debacle too with the LCI Filler from Rimfire Central or will Sam's bushing kind of take care of this mess?

Sorry for the ignoranace and thanks for the tip!

Happy Holidays!
