Ammo Suggestions for Steel Challenge?

I'm planning on shooting some steel challenge matches with my 22/45.

Looking for ammo suggestions from those who have shoot steel matches.

I've found my 22/45 will eat just about anything, but I want something that is consistently accurate, and really haven't paid a lot of attention to distance accuracy with what I've shot in this gun.

Thanks!

Thanks CARSINC. Interesting read.

Considering the spread from best to worst comes down to about a half inch at 50 yards I'm taking away that whatever feeds and fires best in my gun will do just fine for a speed shoot.

It won't be the ammo thats the problem.

I just use the Federal 525 boxes, grab them when they are on sale at Cabela's. Got three boxes a few months ago for $14.99. They run fine in my 22/45, in fact better than some other more pricey brands. Steel challenge is at least 190 rounds, so cheap is good.

I don't shoot steel challenge, but regularly shoot in the local Ruger Rimfire Series events with steel targets. Most of the shooters who seriously compete are shooting Federal bulk as opposed to the other bulk ammo. Less dirty and more consistently reliable.

I noticed Federal Champion scored about the middle of the pack in the shootoff CARSINC posted.

I'll hit up WallyWorld for a bulk box. Thanks for the responses!

Much of the shooting I do involves "bowling pin shoots" and modified action "scoot & shoot" events for .22 rimfire. The link to the test data, while very interesting, involves rimfire ammo tested out of a "very accurate" match rifle. What you plan on doing is use your pistol for "steel challenge", correct? When I'm looking for another, or testing a differrent brand of .22 rimfire ammunition, it makes sense to me to do that out of the pistol I plan to use for those events. Below is a picture of my pin-gun and some groups that were fired from my bench with the gun sitting on sand-bags. When doing serious ammo testing, I pull out the Ransom Rest. This pistol likes CCI Mini-mags with the 40 grain round nose which, when I do my part, have the ooomph to knock bowling pins over and off the table when the head of the pin receives one of these bullets. Appropriate size steel plates for the rimfire round are sent backward also when I do my part with this ammo.

Ditto, shooting the same matches Federal bulk has been working well for me.
