| MKII Mags fit MKIII
Will the MKII mags fit the MKIII, reason I ask is I'm looking for a MKII or III, I've had a MKII in the past but have sold and have two or three mags and am now interested in getting another one, if a MKIII comes along just curious if the mags would fit.

the Mark III magazine has a small "divot" on the magazine that isn't there on the Mark II. It has to do with some of the new features on the Mark III. Not sure if they're interchangable.
You can see the divot when you go to rugerstore.com and pull up the pictures of each.

Older 22/45 mags will fit but you have to replace the base-----and it helps the remove the mag disconnect in the gun.

I picked up a MkIII after owning a MkII for 20 years... I still have the MkII and the MkIII became trade-bait. I don't like the CL indicator or the "traditional" mag release behind the trigger (believe it or not) and the mag-out safety sucks! My vote is for holding out and getting a decent MkII to match your mags. |

Thanks everyone, that's what I needed to know, I really like the hunter, but will look for a 5 1/2 bull MKII.

Well, the MK II mags actually fit a MK III but they won't lock in the gun. It's because of that dimple talked about above the is not on the MK II magazine. You can use a MKIII mag in a MK II though.
I wasn't crazy about the MK III either having owned a MK II for 15 years. But I wanted a gun I could cut the barrel down and have threaded for a suppressor so I bought a MK III.
I have removed the magazine disconnect and recently found a solution for the LCI which is a stainless steel insert to fill the slot once the plastic LCI is removed.
If they would have made the MK III and changed only the mag catch location Ruger would have had the perfect .22 pistol. The MK II was close but the European mag release at the bottom of the mag well makes fast reloads for plate competitions etc impossible.

| Disassemble and revers mag button
Heard the story taht you can convert a MKII mag to work in a MK III by taking it apart and putting the mag load button on the opposite side. Was told that it would then work just fine. Can't hurt to try |
