Mark III Hunter vs Mark IV Hunter

Hi all,

I've got the Mark III Hunter which I really enjoy shooting (aside from the takedown). Aside from the disassembly, is there any other material/functional difference between the two? Any reason to trade off the III and get the IV?

Thanks

The only reason I can see is the IV is easier to take apart. I have the III model and see no reason to trade or sell to get a IV. I have shot maybe 200 rds through mine in 2 years and have not needed to take it fully apart yet. If I shot far more rounds and had to completely break it down more often then I may consider getting a IV.

I am considering a trade. If I decide to shoot Steel Challenge this year I think I will try to find one. Maybe just purchase not trade.
I shot Steel Challenge year before last and when practicing I would shoot over 100 rounds every day (at least 5 days a week) for the three weeks before a match. Some days I would shoot twice that. My Ruger MKIII Hunter would get pretty dirty. I would shoot at least 1500 rounds before tearing it down for a deep clean.
I purchased a 22/45 Lite MKIII to shoot in the Challenge, but it will not run 100% reliability no matter what I do or what ammo I shoot. A very frustrating gun.
The Hunter runs 100% with Mini Mags or Remington Golden bulk HP.

Yesterday at the range, a member brought his new Mark IV Hunter, and looking at my Mark III Hunter, only difference I saw was tear down.
I tear down the Mark III, after shooting for cleaning, and use it every week, and found it tears down easier, and just falls into place on installations.
What I invested into my Mark, I'll keep it.

I see no reason to get rid of my MK III Hunter for the MK IV. If I didn't own a MK III I would probably go with the MK IV maybe because of the new technology (unless a MK III was sitting next to it at a much lower price).

I have shot 1,575 rounds through MY MK III and clean it completely after each use. I learned how to field strip my MK II back in 1988 (pre-Internet) by reading the user manual, writing notes during each field strip and reassembly, and using patience.

When I got my MK III a couple years ago I found the same field strip procedure worked for it as my MK II.

Good luck on your decision.
