My Mark III seems to be gettting harder to cock as I put more rounds through it. It's to the point now where my wife can't cock it at all and I struggle with it. Is there a way to loosen it up so it doesn't take so much effort? Other than the cocking, the gun works fine and is very accurate. It's just getting that first round chambered that's a bear. |

I'm assuming you have taken it apart cleaned it and lightly oiled it right? I'm not sure what else would be causing it maybe someone else has had this problem.

My first guess is that it needs a good cleaning. If the gun functions while shooting, that's all I can think of right now. Look at the inside of the bolt face and see if it's all built up with gunk and stuff. It just might have a bunch of dirt built up aroung the bolt. Hope that's all it is. Easy fix. |

i'm sorry. what i meant was when you are done shooting do you snap the trigger and store it that way. ( hammer down) or leave it cocked. i always leave mine cocked. it is particularly hard to recock it. a mark 3's bolt ears are smaller and harder to grab than older mark 2's or 1's. it's hard for my wife and my 11 year old can't recock it.

lol! yeah i don't know a cure for that one, except maybe a reduced power main spring kit. then you might get light strikes.

You can get a a larger handle for the bolt. It attaches with set screws..so it comes off easily when needed. Saw them online but I cant remember exactly where...I'll see if I can find it again.

that product goes on mark 2's. the bolt ears are larger on mark 2's than mark 3s.

Too bad. That would have been the perfect solution.

Next time you have the mainspring out of the pistol dribble a couple of drops of lightweight oil down were the hammer strut depresses on the mainspring assembly, It may be totaly dry inside & this may help some.. BTW I always keep my MKIIs hammer down while in the safe.. I also rack the bolt first, cocking the hammer, & flick the safety into the "S" possition before I put a magazine in the gun.. BTW My MKII has a MKIIIs bolt & the ears are tapered & harder to get ahold of?? Always Wondered why Ruger did this?? Gary/Hk |

I have made a device for the Mk. 3 that slips over the tapered end of the bolt and allows one to pull the slide back without having to grip it. Made of a substantial plastic it is non-marring. If interested, send me an e-mail stewswanson@comcast.net and I can forward a picture (don't know how to post it on this forum). Stew |
