Glad you were able to DIY to get back up and running again Bell Swamp.

I'm going to let Ruger restore mine because I probably would mess it up...finger dexterity and eyesight...not what it use to be with working with stuff like this.

So, the CMD models are experiencing similar front sight woes as well...Ruger must of gotten a hold of some bad sights...

I have to admit I am pretty concerned about this. I recently acquired a CMD, and yes I had read lots of posts regarding this problem, but I would have thought that if it were just a certain lot # on the sights, they would have pulled those sights from their inventory instead of "fixing" people's returned guns with the same exact sights that break again. This is what makes me concerned that as long as they keep popping the same sights back on there, you might be continuously in danger of the front sight shearing off. Perhaps even a recall is in order. I have all of about 50 rounds through mine, and I am already contemplating having a gunsmith install different sights, just to guarantee that I won't have this problem in the future. its pretty sad when you buy a gun and the manufacturer has a known, provable issue with a gun and their only response seems to be "send it back and we fix it for you." there are certain issues that can be fixed by tuning certain parts...front sights shearing off seems a tad inexcusable to me.

You brought up some very valid concerns Creeky'

I certainly did not anticipate or expect the front sight blade to shear off my SR. I just completed putting 3300 rounds in total down range since I bought the gun last September 2012. I'm finding out through this thread that other members have had it happen to them more then once...that's not good.

I hope to have mine back from Ruger in the next couple of days and I'll give an update on the fix. I too, wish (and hope) they replace the broken sights with something else...we'll see.

Thanks for your input!

The wait is over...

I received an Email from UPS stating that they will be delivering my SR1911 on Wednesday!!! Ruger has finished the front sight repair!!!

Sent the SR to Ruger last Tuesday, getting it back this Wednesday...how about that customer service...Thank you Ruger!

Mine's back in town but I'm not. I'll be picking it up from UPS on Thursday. I'm concerned about it happening again, as it has with others. Hopefully Ruger has identified the bad sights they still have in stock and purged them from their system. Hate to think they're putting bad ones on to replace already broken ones.

I'm concerned as well Desert6 but with all the repeat occurrences Ruger's had with this sight issue I'm hoping they've developed a long term fix for it, we'll see...trying to be positive

Let me know if you have a repeat and I'll let you know if I have one...and that goes for anyone else that's going through the front sight blade problem.

Thanks all, appreciate ya's!

I think Ruger had a bad batch of front sights , After I replaced mine I was very careful with it for a while ,looking at it after each trip to the range. Checking for cracks. I'm calling mine good.
Good Luck

Got my SR1911 back from Ruger today

It looks good, same sight as before but...fixed.

There was a packing slip in the box and it said, after the front sight was replaced the pistol was "functioned fired", 30 rounds of Black Hills 230gr FMJ with the two (original) magazines, (that I sent them upon their request), without malfunction.

They also sent me a complimentary Ruger Silicone Cleaning Cloth...nice touch.

I went onto the Ruger site and sent off a message to CEO, Mike Fifer, to tell him what a great job his folks did in my case.

Now, lets go get ready for the range!

Got mine back today, same notes on the packing slip as what JK55 got, complementary cleaning cloth as well.

Hope to head to the range tomorrow!

New guy here.

I bought my SR1911 in July and I maybe have 500 rounds through it. I love the pistol....but my sight broke off Friday night. I have Gander Mountain's extra warranty, but it sounds like I'll get much better service if I contact Ruger directly.

Other than the sight, I love the pistol. I get better with it every time I shoot it.

.....and a public service announcement and endorsement: If you carry a full size 1911, like I do, I highly recommend the Crossbreed holster. This pistol is still a healthy chunk of steel, but the Crossbreed make an IWB carry doable on a daily basis. I'm getting so that I hardly notice it any longer.....and I can tuck my shirts in while wearing it. I've had shooting instructors not realize I was carrying a full size 1911 just wearing slacks and a dress shirt (tucked in).

Anyway....it's good to be here. Now....if I can just get that front sight fixed!

Sorry to hear about your front sight but like you said I'd think you will be better off just contacting Ruger yourself.
Now I just hope I don't get that "front sight disease" with mine lol

Hey Flyfisher, sorry about your front sight breaking off. I had mine replaced by Ruger in a weeks time...

Give Ruger's Customer Service a call and they'll instruct you on what to do to get the gun back to them for the repair.

Call the Arizona facility at 928-541-892 between 8am-5pm MST, Monday-Friday.

Good luck!

Angry SR 1911 Sight Problem

I am on the 2nd sight, the first lasted 200 rounds, I sent it in ,they fixed it and said they fired 30 rounds through it, and no problem. I fired about 35 rounds today and the sight was gone again. NOT TOO HAPPY, BillyGoat

Front sight.

I might have dodged the bullet, so to speak. I bought a new SR1911 this summer and have put a couple hundred rounds through it. Fantastic gun. I am 67 years old and have a bit of trouble seeing the front sight well. Well, I decided I'd like to replace the OE sight with a FO sight. Low and behold, Ruger just started selling one, made by Novak. I ordered one and took it to my local gunsmith. When I picked the gun back up, he said the old sight broke while he was removing it. Guess I was lucky and mine was a ticking time bomb.
