SR45 Magazine Woes

Well things aren't starting to well with the SR45. If I load 10 rounds into the magazine Its almost impossible to pull the slide back. When I finally did, the cartridge that came out of the had a pretty deep score. Not one but both magazines. With 10 round loaded in both magazines I can't get the bullets to budge, there is no downplay in the magazine and it just binds up the slide. If I load 9 rounds everything seems to function fine. I'm not happy about this as its brand new and I haven't fired it yet. I called Ruger customer service and explained my problem. They are going to send me out 1 new magazine then we'll go from there. My SR9c and LCP have been perfect. Maybe just a bad batch of magazines.

Well seems like I got it fixed. Went to the safe and grabbed the magazines for my LCP and SR9c loaded up all the mags. They all had atleast 1/4" downward movement fully loaded. Loaded the SR45 mags then took the loading tool and worked the spring several times. Now have about the same in these magazines and no more slide binding.

Well, hopefully Ruger won't want that replacement mag back. I just loaded my two mags for the first time, and was able to get all 10 rounds in. However, that last round was a bugger to get in, and I never would have done it were it not for my trusty UpLULA! Guess I'll leave them loaded up for a couple of days in hopes of improving the situation. Now, if only Ruger would start supplying magazines beyond those that come with the gun I'll be very happy.

Now it's time for great 'customer' service, call Ruger right back to stop them from shipping that extra mag.
That would be the right thing to do.

This is very common with new mags. I have had mags from Glock, SIG, HK, Walther, and others that did this when new so it's not uncommon. One of the first things I do when I have a new pistol is to load the mags Minus one round from full and let them sit for a week or two, then all's good.

If you're talking about SR45 mags I haven't even seen them listed there. It troubles me when a manufacturer comes out with a new gun but is unable to supply spare mags!

All my new magazines (quite a few in the last month or so) always get fully loaded and allowed to sit for a couple of weeks. After that they're used normally and either stored loaded or unloaded ... whichever suits my fancy. That practice put a halt to my new magazine woes decades ago.

I would have told them to run my card for the price. Then you would have a hard-to-find extra magazine.

I think I'd have done the same. I'd like to find an extra for my SR9. I will, in all liklihood, place a backorder for one on shopruger.com pretty soon. Anyone know if they're charging your card right away, or do they wait until the mag ships?

My SR45 magazines were extremely tight when I first got my SR45... I loaded and unloaded 9 rds a few times and the magazines loosened up, then the 10th rd would go in fine..

When I talked to customer service, the lady said that SR45 magazines are scarce right now. She told me she would replace one at this point and if this solved the problem the other at a later date. Thankfully. I think the problem I was having is solved, and the SR will perform flawlessly at the range tomorrow.

I too talked with Ruger last week about extra SR45 mags and the lady said, just keep checking the New Items tab on shopruger.com page. It will be on there when they become available. Now we wait!!
