Ruger SR40 Normal Wear?

Having purchased my first hand gun, I noticed some wear above the extractor. It has about 400 rounds down the tube. Should this be considered normal wear and nothing to worry about? I have sent an email to ruger and am awaiting their response, but it has been bothering me all weekend!

I don't own the same pistol but it looks like normal wear to me.

Welcome from Australia mate.
Glad to have you on board, nice folk here and lots of good info.
Not sure if it's something to worry about, but it doesn't look quite right.
Let us know what you hear back from Ruger.

Looks like excessive wear to me, here are 2 pictures of the same place on my SR40 around 300 rounds, including steel cased ammo.

Wear looks normal but also looks like you need to clean the surfaces to make an accurate assessment. If you're referring to the mark above the extractor that looks like peening, you might want to ask Ruger and show them the pictures.

EDIT:
I just looked at my wife's SR40 and it does have a bright spot (but no metal actually displaced) where you have the peening. Her round count is about double yours but has been exclusively brass cased hand loaded ammunition. We'll be keeping an eye on hers, but if it gets no worse that it is I'll consider it cosmetic and inconsequential.

Looks more like a mark made during the manufactering process. You would think with the breechface being much harder than brass, aluminum, or even steel cased ammo that the ammo could not wear such a mark

How about a pic of the barrel, chamber mouth ? Curious if there is something there causing that.

I have upwards of 8000 rds through my SR40 and that nick on the slide looks highly suspicious to me....let us know what they say ...I call them and ask that they send you a call tag to ship it down there for inspection / replacement if it were mine

Mine has a pretty good "slap" to her. The "wear" looks like mine but it cleans off for the most part except on the barrel end, it does take some effort to clean off. I put a touch of grease on mine where it bumps. Mine has no slide knick....

Got an email reply form ruger today:

"Everything that I am seeing on your slide appears normal. It appears as if you have shot somewhere between 150-200 rounds. If you have shot more then you are actually in better shape. There does not appear to be anything that is wrong, and should not cause any malfunctions."

The estimates of round fired are about half right, so it looks like I am in good shape. I will be putting some more rounds through it this weekend and will keep and eye on the wear.

I have an SR40 and have almost 4,000 rounds through it. I've had similar wear on mine, but no problems.

Seriously, that big mar on the right rear of the slide looks BAD...something is hitting (or had hit) that hard to leave such a dimple...I'd demand that they take a look at it and replace it.
