Obviously the caliber isn't the issue, it's the platform your wondering about. I don't know of many people who have anything bad to say about a well build 1911 model. The SR1911 is very well built, and probably one of the most reliable out there. If you like to mainly shoot - it's the one. If your looking mainly for carry, then shooting, then probably the SR45.

I have the SR1911 and love it to the moon and back! I don't have the SR45...YET ...but I'm sure it's a keeper as well.

I'm not familiar with polymer guns. I need to check them out...sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

Both, i have the SR9, SR9c SR40, SR40c and SR191911. They are all great pistols, never had any problems with any of them. Will have the Sr45 whenever LGS gets one in, both are in short supply, you should grab whichever one you find first at a reasonable price then the other whenever you can find it, you won't be sorry.

If you've never owned a 1911, have you ever used one? I'm not a very experienced shooter but the sweet trigger and extra weight of the SR1911 is really great for me. I shoot it much better than my SP101 4". Trigger on my SR9c is great for that type of gun and I assume the SR45 is similar, but nothing like the SR1911.

What he said. The fact that there are 3-million parts from 88 manufacturers that will interchange, is one of the glorys of this timeless pistol.

Yes, that's part of the addiction. And grips. You can have grips to match any mood.

The SR45 is a great idea. I love the SR platform and my SR40cs are among my favorite firearms. But there is no handgun in any caliber that has the magic of a 1911 .45 pistol. Truly a timeless classic.

You have the SRc, I'd try something different. I'm looking forward to the SR1911 commander.

Anyone have both to add some comparative advice? I am also torn between the two, but have the ability to get either whenever I decide. My problem is the lgs won't let me test them out and he said they are waiting for my decision.

Just like any one who watches The Nut N Fancy project. I would first recommend you decide what your philosophy of use will be? Do you want a ccw gun, a range gun, a home defense gun?
for CCW id probably go with a SR45
for a range gun id go with a SR1911
for home defense Id chose both.

I would go with the SR1911 first. Let the SR45 run on the market for a while to make sure Ruger got it right the first time with it. I love my SR9C so I am not knocking the SR45. It's just new and coming out during a time of peak-capacity production. My LGS sells a ton of guns and they have nothing but praise for the SR1911. The manager says there's no other 1911 in that price range that can compete quality-wise.
