new old P89DC

I went to local gun show, looking for my first handgun. I hoped for a DA pistol with 10 rounds or so, in great shape for less than $400. Don't think I need big calibur, fun on the target range and home defense if necessary. Limited inventory for a gun that fits my hand and all the "hope for's". Found a Ruger P89DC 9mm. Hadn't heard or seen a lot of info on this model, but it was the best of the price range, ect, even tho it is used. Smooth action and cleaned up nice. Looking for a "ruger hard shell guncase and new handgrips to add, any leads??

I have a 1994 vintage P-89 that I bought almost new but it's the safety model. It's a great pistol. For grips, I like the Hogue's with finger grooves or you can just add a Hogue grip sleeve that fits over the factory grips to do about the same thing. You can probably get a hard case from Ruger.

For my 21st birthday me and a buddy celebrated by buying handguns. I bought a P95dc and it's still in the safe. I mostly shoot my glocks now but I don't see any reason to give up my ruger.

I bought a stainless new in '94 and installed the Hogue replacement grip. Great combo and it remains my most comfortable center fire handgun to shoot. I'll bet Hogue still makes that model because it probably also fits at least a couple of models that followed. Good luck, you've purchased a way better than average pistol.

I've always been a revolver guy, but I came into the 20th century last week when I purchased a gently-used P89DC. I managed to acquire two boxes of different brands 9mm and test fired it last Saturday. No problems whatsoever and I like it a lot. It's a shame, though, that I added her to my collection at such a bad time to try to find and stock up on a new caliber of ammo.

Things are looking up...
Last night, I installed the Hogue rubber wrap-around grip and it vastly improved the handling, and the appearance IMHO.

ps - found (5) 100-round boxes WWB 9mm today while trolling a Wal-Mart.

Thumbs up love mine great gun!

Thumbs up mine is 100 percent reliable
mine is 100 percent reliable, and pretty accurate. Its heavy, so you can hold it steady while you aim and recoil isn't felt much. great gun!

TinRoof... Congrats on the P89DC. I have a few Rugers, one of which is a P89 in the safety and one in the DC flavors. Both are sweet in stainless.... Love the P series. I do have a spare factory Ruger Case I can let go for a price if you didn't already find one.

DeSotoIron - Wow... Can't believe you found any WWB in Walmart. I have been visiting mine and the shelves are bare. I did buy some Remington .45ACP today only because I wasn't sure if they would get the good stuff back in anytime soon. Normally not a Remington fan.... but oh well. Our Walmart is limiting customers to 3 boxes of ammo (any flavor) per day. And I think my brother's Walmart in GA has the same limitation.... you are lucky. Beings you are a revolver fan, do you have any 9mm Revolvers by chance? Last year I recently opted to add to my Revolver collection and picked up some Taurus .22, 9mm and .45ACP Snubby Revolvers..... so I can limit ammo requirements to those calibers. I like em.

Finding the 5 boxes of 9mm at Wal Mart was kind of like hitting the jackpot after playing the ammo slot machine for several weeks, looking at the same empty shelves every trip. A store employee finally told me that they put out the new ammo stock from unloading the overnight trucks - and it does not come in every day and even they don't know when they will receive ammo - at about 7AM. I was told to be there just after 7AM, but not much later than that, as their employees quickly telephone there 'buds to come buy it up when it does arrive. I left extra early for work every day for a week to stop by WM and saw the same old empty shelf every day until yesterday. I turned the corner and saw literally a shopping cart overflowing with ammo cartons - one 10-box carton of 100-round WWB 9mm's, one carton Federal 50-round 9mm, 00 buck, one case of .223, some .40, but no 22LR. I don't know what else, since I was on a quest for 9mm. The stack of cartons in the shopping cart looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss cartoon... Four other fellas standing around waiting on the plunder. And no "limit" sign in sight.

I went back today to see if lightning would strike twice. It did not. But, there was a brand new "LIMIT 3 BOXES" sign posted.
